PS2 Soul Calibur II

The game arrived early, it supports wide screen and 480p output.

The game is pretty good looking and smooth, it supports DPLII. The image is very detailed.

The models are pretty fine. The only thing that make me wonder is if every fighter that feature female characters have to bounce nowaday, Taki in SCII does that (but more natural comparing to DOA3 or DOAX).

Here are a couple of shots taken by my Fujifilm digital camera on my LCD monitor, sorry that they are not very well taken. The shots with 2 big figures are using the same in game 3D model from what I can see when they show up on the screen.

wow, those screens look pretty amazing IMO. How does it compare to other fighters, i.e. Tekken 4, Virtua Fighter 4 [Evo] and Dead or Alive 3? Does it flicker?

Heh, really? In that case, this title just made it into my 'to buy list' now... /jk

Still haven't played much VF4 EVO as I am still into FF X-2. I personally don't like Tekken 4.

The control is very smooth and fast, as good as DOA3.

Running progressive looks great, saw it on TVs in game shop and I didn't notice flicker (I wouldn't notice flicker at home even if interlaced and I have mentioned the reason before).

Nice, albeit a little short impressions, it´s great to know that the game pleases the eye nonetheless. BTW, graphically, how does it stand against the other versions? And against DOA3 and T4?

According to Famitsu the Cube- and XBox-versions are clearly superior (graphically) but the PS2-version has better controls.

I know, but more details would be nice to back up that very vague statement. :)

Only PS2 version came early, the other versions are not available yet.

I am uploading 3 MPEG-2 movie files recorded by my PAL DV camera to my server, not a true representative on the real quality, but just a small glimsp on the game.

Nice videos. Thanks maskrider! :)

The wait for it to release in the States is too long. It's most certainly going to be quite a kickass game though.

Thanks for those awesome vids. This game just turned into a must have on all three consoles. Call me crazy, but I think I'll be plunking down some big ones for all three versions of this game and picking up a few extra controllers while I'm at it. Are those videos really from the PS2 version? If they are then it does show the PS2 finally coming into its own. First ZOE2, now Soul Caliber II. PS2 gaming keeps gettign better and better.

Well from what Archie said, System 246 == PlayStation 2, so a perfect conversion was to be expected. Instead of being interested in how the PS2 ver fairs, im more interested in what Namco did to spruce up the Xbox and GC versions..

edit: The august release date still pisses me off though. 5 months to do a localization on a fighter?!?!?! Right... (I know they want to capitalize on the fall/xmas season, but still)

Do I need any sort of special codec to play those videos.....? Wouldn't play normally, so I installed Nimo (decoder option), and its still a bust... argh!

If the screens are anything to go by, it does look better on the Cube and Xbox, but it's really nothing obvious. Xbox version supports 720p so that clearly puts in on top visually, though.

Certainly PS2 as I took them with my Sony PAL DV camera on my LCD monitor playing the PS2 (early arrived) version of SCII.

I encoded them with TMPGENC 2.5 to 512x288 PAL MPEG-2, I think any standard MPEG-2 pkayback programs will do.

the videos don't work....

and, well, the Xbox version supports 720p... wow... i guess chap was right after all

anyway, no point praising them, it's not going to support 720p, and the GC won't support 480p either in europe.... , the only version with Pro-scan will be PS2 here... funny enough, the PS2 version might end up looking better than the Xbox and GC versions here in europe  can you believe it....

Of course chap does rock! ;) Put aside your hate and embrace moi words!

Now the PS2 version is looking sweet, as i mentioned in another topic here, should STFU all DC fannies about SC1 == SC2 graphics crap.

I see the textures vibrancy is much better than the arcade version(must be the crappy arcade monitor). Then again, why is PS2 version still suffering from that godawful background shimmering? :(

Is that lack of mipmapping? flicker fliter? FSAA? :?:
