Playstation 3 might come in 2007

PC-Engine c'mon you can't be serious. Of course the PSTwo costs less to make than the PS2. Fewer chips, less logic, less PSU, less cooling, less case - how can it not be cheaper? Everyone knows at $149 the system is highly profitable for Sony - if it can be cut to $99 and still be profitable, well I believe it. Progressive-scan DVD playback is in everything now. I wouldn't be surprised if Sony had difficulty sourcing a non-progressive part.

I doubt the PSTwo was cheaper to make than the PS2 when it was released. Your simple logic doesn't make much sense either.

And why do you have doubts about it?

Because some parts were more expensive than what PS2 used. Smaller doesn't always equal cheaper. Also a lot of people assume PSTwo was introduced to lower costs, which is debateable. PSTwo was introduced to stimulate sales since PS2 sales were declining. The only part that was cheaper was the single chip EE+GS. Everything else just got smaller or replaced with smaller parts or took on different configurations. For example it still needed a fan, the PSU was moved off the console, the drive was more expensive, the total number of chips only IIRC stayed the same or decreased by only 1.

Everything didn't just 'get smaller.' For example, as I mentioned the cooling and power supplies have been much simplified; ie made less expensive. No more driven-tray loading, rather a simple flip-top. I mean it's a total non-starter. Do you believe that the PSTwo is more expensive to make? I feel like you're just arguing for th esake of arguing.

The cooling and power supplies weren't simplified. The powersupply was moved off the console and into the AC adapter. That doesn't necessarily equal cheaper. The cooling took on a different configuration and it still required a fan and heatsink again doesn't equal cheaper. Tray loading versus top loading doesn't equat to cheaper either. In fact moving from a motorized trayloading drive to a manual loading slim drive actually costs more.

I believe the PSTwo when it was released cost slightly more than the PS2 to make. As of right now they might be equal.

I too believe you are arguing just for sake the sake of arguing. I mean at the end of the day what is your overall point? Because to me it doesn't sound like you're making any.

Just giving reasons why PSTwo doesn't necessarilly equal cheaper. An analyst saying PSTwo probably costs $100 to make today doesn't necessarily mean it's true...that's the point.

You guys do know that there's a nice "Ignore User" function in the brand spanking new boards, right?
Maybe some people should put it to use.

Actually your argument for it being cheaper was pretty shitty. Just because something is smaller/has less parts doesn't automatically make it cheaper.

Why would one need to do that? If you don't agree then don't post, unless you have a valid counter argument.

This thread is going way downhill. Locked.

In addition, those of you bringing these threads down are getting a warning. It turned into a thread about PS3 having a possible 2007 release to which version of current Sony console is cheaper to make. Create a new thread if you wish to continue that topic. Also, include civil discussion.
