Pioneer: 4-7million PS3 units to ship this year?

Limited

Well, this year means 6-7 months assuming an April or june launch, not 9. In that timeframe they were only able to manufacture 3million units, I don't see how they can make 7million PS3's in the same timeframe this time around.

As far as whether they can produce PS3 faster than PS2, what reason is there to think this will be the case? All signs point to the opposite. They are relying on IBM for their CPU which has become MS's biggest bottleneck, and they are using a very cutting edge technology with BR.

I just can't see one good reason why we would think there's much of a chance of PS3 being less production limited than PS2 was...

4-7 Million target production is very low for demand (if demand is same as Xbox360, US demand is >4 M for Sep-Dec 4) so I think this statement is sign of production limitation for PS3. Ebay will have many large profits.

Don't believe everything you read is all I have to say. Is Edge owned by Sony? Cause it seems basically like PSM with the trash they report.
huh? while Edge clearly isn't quite the mag it used to be, I don't think they'd gone so low as to just make up these reports.
Any multiplatform developer with common sense wouldn't ignore the fact which platform has clearly had the largest installed base for two generation in a row, and in a quite a large marigin too.
I do agree though that it probably isn't much worth reporting that fact, as it's pretty much a given, so it's no news really.
But as parts of some interviews (which I believe they were, not yet having read the mag in question) do you think Edge would be less of a trash if they'd edited those bits out?

Edge is quite a respectable magazine. Have you ever read a copy? It's about the only magazine worth reading anymore.

Used to be maybe. It's still definately "independent", but after they changed the whole team, it's not what it was before. You can see the difference in the article. Admittedly i haven't read Esge for a while - ever since the change - so things might be better these days.

Definately not owned by Sony, Edge was always more friendly with MS/Xbox. Not sure about today.

It's perhaps not as good as it was during its golden period, but Edge on an off-day is still better than 99% of the stuff out there, IMO. I certainly would not doubt the credibility of quotes in an article, or something like that!

EA isn't goign to spend millions to develop a PS3 game and not make it multi platform. That's simply too risky.

I dont think so either, so perhaps the source means they have more games planned with PS3 as the base as of right now, and will likely port accordingly from there on? MoH:Airborne is going to be one of EA's first major multi-platform titles tol be released simultaneously on both consoles, and sure enough PS3 is the base platform for their new Renderware engine. I dont know if thats a sign of things to come but it wouldnt surprise me. MS' friendlier development tools dont seem to be a deciding factor for choosing the base system in this case.

That's not a deserved comment at all IMO..

You could talk "relative competency" of the most recent editorial team vs older ones til the cows come home, but it remains a very fine publication, I think.

Do we know where the old team went to? Edge is a great mag, even if I do hate spending an atrocious amount on it.

This is exactly what I took from the EA comments. Looks like some 3rd parties are going to keep the PS3 first while everything else is 2nd or 3rd place in their mindset.

I'm not sure about Edge magazine as I have not read it in a long time, but I do notice that multi-console mags in general have a lot of good things to say about Sony, and cover their games more.

Now this makes good financial sense. Multi-console mags should not try to be bias, but should report on games reflecting the market mix, with Sony coverage being the highest. That's being smart.

Now on the "don't believe everything you read" because you don't like what's being said. I say don't believe everything you read on this forum. ;)

"Play" gets my money. Dave Halverson is still one of teh better editors out there ever since Ed Semrad left EGM in the nineties...
