I don't know what is implied by "starvation", but I am fairly certain that people don't die from hunger in India. Malnutrition exists, yes, but not starving to death. (Ascetics with poor judgement don't count! :) )
    Well, just an oblique point.

I wonder if the lack of protien consumption has anything to do with that.

You know, with many indian friends i have (the vegetarian ones), i've always wondered if protein consumption (or LACK OF) was the reason behind some common characteristics i saw in all of them, men and women...
    But anyway...

possibly, or they could be taking the protein in the wrong end.

Don't they grow beans and other sources of vegetable protein in India? There are certain amino acids and such which you can only get in meat, but protein is easy to come by if you're a vegetarian.

    Myself, I'm a dedicated omnivore. :)

Or you can take the more easy route of gathering your protien from animals.

but we don't want to do that that would be hurting a living thing

Many religious practices are strange and/or funny but laughing at it is rude and (sometimes) dangerous.

P.S to make it clear -i'm an atheist

Peta should do something usefull . Like coming to jersey and repairing the marsh lands that have been destroyed so that new york can have 2 football teams play here and dump their trash here .

So we should reinstate an insect filled swamp so that mosquitos and bog life can thrive?

there is alot more than just mosquitos .

Oh and don't get me wrong the marsh is still there. when the pavement for giant stadium ends there is the marsh. The little islands for the crap is surrounded by marsh .

But there are many more animals that depend on the marsh lands like rare turtles , crabs , certian fish , certian plants .

Just because for you it might not be the best place doesn't mean its not extremly important to your well being .

That's their aim - scaring young, easily influenced people into supporting their narrow-minded, selfish world view. I've known them argue that they would promote their aims 'by all means necessary' and I would reply that in a free democracy, all that is necessary would be a good argument presented intelligently, yet I find the inability of PETA and similar organisations (eg SHAC in the UK) to present a cogent argument to influence consumer choice most telling.

I could show you pictures of bowel surgery, or maybe a heart transplant, that would similarly upset and offend - but clearly no-one is going to ban surgery! (PETA members, however, might opt for outlawing surgery?)

    Gah. PETA suck.

    taken from bash.org

<+Huitzil> PETA is starting a campaign stating that the secret ingredient in KFC chicken is "cruelty"
<+Huitzil> cruelty is apparently the most fucking delicious thing on Earth
    <@Dracos> Yes. It is.
<@Dracos> Which is why veal is the best food ever.

That is soooo funny. I'm adding it to my sig, as it seems to be revolving sig day(I'll probably change it to a quote from Transformers: The Movie later today.).
