Overwatch [PC] Blizzard

With limits you wouldn't get cool and fun strats like this:
Heh. Winston absolutely ruins multiple Symmetras. He can jump quickly to areas where the turrets are and deploy the shield to prevent all damage. All turrets will be gone in a split second as Winston's beam auto aims and turrets have 1 HP.

I watched a match with a team consisting of 5 Zaryas and one Lucio. That was a beating. Multiple Zaryas can pretty much keep projected barrier always applied to the one being attacked and boost up their guns. The lone Lucio then heals all the rest, keeping Zaryas alive (so that they have always close to max weapon power). Too bad the enemy team didn't know how to counter Zarya well (he has limited range, especially against airborne enemies). I would have liked to see the opposing team to switch to 6 Pharah's for some epic beatings :)

So cool, had fantastic rounds yesterday!

The Hollywood defense was amazing: first, they gave as a brutal beating, and in no time, the car was like 5 meters away from the finish line! Boom, I changed to Reinhardt, just for fun, and jumped up the car, stood there with my shield: this was exactly the strategy they used to bring the car so far.

The thing is, they didn't know how to handle me....I just stood there, doing nothing except a bit shielding....from 4 minutes or so, with the car basically delivered....we managed to go in overtime!! Fuck we lost, but it was tense and epic as hell!

Mystery Heroes brawl was a eye opener for me. Random characters are a perfect learning tool. Excellent idea from Blizzard.

Lucio and Winston joined my secondary character roster. I am surprised how often teams do not contain a healer (Lucio or Mercy). No longer happens with my team. Hope others also learned more secondaries as balanced teams have a big advantage in this game.

It's easy to heal around 30% of the whole team's damage with Lucio. Huge difference to team's winning chances. We have only lost a single match when I played him as main (from the beginning of the round). In that match my teammates picked no tanks and no support characters. Touch pick between Zarya and Lucio. I recommend trying Lucio to everyone. He is fun to play (especially compared to Mercy). His main weapon can actually kill people (64 DPS). Got 13 kills in one game yesterday. And his speed boost functions as "mini Symmetra teleporter". If the main group dies (you are naturally part of it), you rally them back to battle in no time.

I like Lucio too. He's not difficult to play, even if you don't know anything you can still contribute to the team. And in the hand of a strong player he can easily be a game changer.

Lucio's main strength imo is not only healing...but bringing the team super fast back into action. It is not as fast as Symmetra's teleport, but still, this can make a huge difference by keeping the pressure constant.

I try to typically bring people from the start to objective, besides healing...a good balance is needed to help the team the most.

Furthermore, try to blast someone out of the map...super fun when it works

If you liked Jet Set Radio, you will like Lucio wallride :)

High level wall riding tutorial:

Applied to combat:

I like Overwatch because every character is unique. Many characters have abilities reminding of another game. Quake Arena lowers select Pharah, CoD players can pick up Solder 76 and feel right at home. Lucio and Genji are fun for Jet Set Radio / THPS and other skill based movement game lowers. Torbjorn / Symmetra suit those players who like tower defense games (watch your well placed turrets wreck havok).

Yeah, it is absolutely amazing!

Junkrat reminds me of Unreal Tournament with Flak cannon (I am a dedicated Flak monkey!)

Yesterday, finally, my team could beat a team with 4 Torbs...it was amazing: I switched to S76, as he has longer range with Helix rockets. Worked out well, but the team was also amazing.

My actual rooster is S76 (is a very good alround char), Junkrat (still my strongest char, has imo the highst dps, looping grenades can put high pressure on other team), Zarya (is very strong when pushing a load), and Roadhog (I have to play stealth with him...he is to big of a target, I flank with him), and Lucio (the only support I can make work so far, but still I need to learn much more with him as I often get destroyed).

On ps4, I have the following impression:

-Sniper characters (Hanzo, Widow) are weak...only few console gamers can make them work it seems. Generally: if we have two of those on our team...we will most likely lose. Snipers also do not understand that in sudden death, the also need to be close to the objective to hold the timer! (Or better switch char)

- A good Reinhardt on the team has so much value, it is unbelievable. I encountered several excellent Reinhardt player...they typically carry the team to success! I don't know how they do it as I just keep getting surrounded and destroyed.

- A good Mercy is also of so much value, especially her revive ult. Man, I would give Mercy players the POTG all the time :)

- Good Tracer player can be a pain. It is hard to aim because of their fast movement.

- Torb turrets are devastating: auto aim across the map, lot's of energy, very hard to take out if Torb places them smart (super hard: Hollywood map, at the capture point, elevator platform...)

- Zenyatta is also a secret beast imo. I got wrecked by good Zenyatta players. But everytime I play him I get insta killed :( i love having Zenyatta on my team!

Remember to up-vote the healers :)

It is kind of sad that the ending screen doesn't show kills for the healers. Last game I killed one player less than the best killer in our team (14 kills) and healed 10000+ damage total (45% of the team's whole damage taken). Practically I reduced our enemy's weapon damage to half. But got no votes, because people usually vote for the ones doing most kills... but my kills never show up. Same for Zarya, the game shows his barrier stats instead (how many barriers and how much damage prevented). I'd like an ending screen that would show a little bit more info to make a better decision who was the best player in our team.

Yeah the mindset is strange. In MMORPGs where there are player votes at the end of dungeons or matches, it's usually the healers that get the votes.

I understand Blizzard wants to keep information overload at a minimum so casual players aren't intimidated, but they could stand to loosen up on that just a little so people can get a better idea of each individuals contribution.

When I used to do competitive multiplayer a lot, it was inevitable that you would run into people that would not do anything except look for an enemy that a teammate has gotten low on health and then burst them down to get the kill. Doesn't help the team much, but their kill stat at the end of the game sure looked good. :p

Yes. That's not good either. But the current one doesn't reward those players who play their support role well AND also get nice amount of kills (or damage) done at the same time. For example a pure healer like Mercy gets much better looking stats than hybrids (Lucio and Zenyatta). Same is true for Reinhard. His shield stats overwhelm Zarya's shield stats. However Zarya was shooting all the time when shielding and Reinhard was not. Still the screen shows no damage/kills for the Zarya. This makes it look like the Reinhard did a much better job, even when he was just passively shielding and the Zarya did most of the kills. Something needs to be done to make hybrid character role statistics better.

If you had the absolutely highest kill streak of the team, then the game shows that also for healers. But its almost impossible to get that. But still it is highly important to know if our Lucio killed 50%+ as much as our McCree. When that happens, I want to vote him (assuming his healing stats are also good, meaning that he played his role as well).

I completely agree, hence why Blizzard needs to loosen up and offer more stats. It's not fair to hybrids as you mentioned. That part you quoted was just an aside showing that if all you see on an end screen for a match is kill score for certain people that doesn't say anything by itself.

I like when there are more comprehensive stats. Damage done in addition to kill score, for example. Same as showing kills in addition to healing done, damage tanked, etc.

This image is just hilarious. I believe we have all seen this happen to us :)

Currently damage dealers get most of the PotGs. Also the statistic screen favors them. Most bonus stats are damage dealer centric (best kill streak, most players killed, kill assistance). Support and tanks almost never get these bonus stats. You also never see Reinhard or Lucio as PotG, but they are most of the time key players of any team. Mercy can get a PotG solely because of a single successful resurrect. Perfect healing (and flying between characters) never gets you any credit.

A better way to score the healers for PotG would be to track whether the teammates would have died if the healing wasn't done. For example: A whole team survives with low HP because Lucio was in the right place and did Amp It Up (or used Sonic Barrier). Without him everybody would have died, and the objective would have lost. This is certainly worth of PotG. Better than Mercy resurrecting the whole team (as there was zero downtime). However the current scoring never gives him PotG for that. Blizzard said themselves that Zenyatta ultimate (Transcendence) gave him too many PotGs because it was healing the whole team so rapidly. So they had to downgrade the scoring. This proves that just calculating the healing amount for scoring is not good enough. If the whole team would have died without that Transcendence (it saved everybody), and if the objective was captured soon after (or team stopped enemy in capture), then that Transcendence clearly was PotG. They should track the healed damage (for some time period) for each character, and calculate scoring based on that (speculatively counting saved kills) in addition of giving small score for "unimportant" healing.

Similarly you can score Zarya's projected shields (project a shield to someone being with by Rip-Tire is as good as resurrecting them). Other shields (Reinhard, Winston, Diva) are harder to score, as they don't target a single player. It is very hard to speculate how many player deaths (or damage) was prevented because these shields. Still there are cases when a single shield was responsible for the win/lose, making it important for Blizzard to improve the shield scoring, so that you can get PotG by saving your team with your shields.

Also Symmetra / Torbjorn scoring is just broken. When they get a kill streak (turrets kill lots of people), they should immediately build/upgrade a turret or deploy a teleporter to boost their score. I once got a PotG at the last second of the game, because my sentry turrets had just killed half of their team and I deployed the teleporter in the middle of the combat. The game should keep track of the teleporter score to determine how important the teleporter drop was (how many players teleported to how big distance and whether those players captured/defended an objective right after using it). Sometimes an important teleporter drop can solely win you the game. Symmetra shouldn't need to kill lots of people (with sentrys) at the same time as she dropped the teleporter to get PotG. As I said PotG is too kill streak centric.

Yesterday I watched some Twitch esports games. A Korean guy was playing as Zarya at very high level. In every game he got close to 10k damage protected by barriers (that's enough to save 50 Genjis from death) and 30+ kills + several times in every game wiped out 3-4 players with his graviton surge. He was absolutely the key player in all the matches. But in every single match (4 in total) PotG was given to Genji wiping out opposing team with with his dragon blade ultimate. PotG currently = fast kill streak.

The group I play with is starting to gel more. With with main characters I have a win rate around 55% I think that's ok for having 2 randoms with us most times.

For whatever reason I am terrible with ultis. I'm not deceptive enough. I'm a straight ahead player and I like to fight around the objectives. So many of the ultis require you to be a little deceptive and use them at the right time so they don't get shut down. If I get my ultis down, my game will increase immensely.

Actually bought a decent mouse, though nothing crazy. Spent $50 on a logitech gaming mouse that was on sale. I wouldn't say it's been a massive difference, but it does track a bit smoother than my $10 productivity mouse. I doubt the real ultra-high-end mice are worth the money, but my productivity mouse would jitter quite a bit if you turned the sensitivity up, so I'd have to keep it low which led to me being a bit slow to track with my aim. I've only used the new one a few nights, but I feel like there have been some kills I would have had trouble getting before.

What I've been doing is running my main heroes when we have a group of 4 or more, and running new heroes when we have 3 or less. I figure without a large group, wins/losses are basically a coin flip, so I'll take those times to learn someone new. I'm terrible with reaper, even though he should be easy to play. It's just not in my mentality to be sneaky to setup his attacks. Genji is pretty fun. I'm not strong with him yet, but I think I'll figure him out.

The heroes that I like to play that I'm not great with are Roadhog and Pharah. Pharah is hit or miss for me. My aim is probably not good enough, so without a lot of direct hits her damage output drops a ton. Other than that I play her fine. Roadhog, I can't figure out his hook. It's weird. I've seen my hook hit targets and bounce off many many many times. I don't know if that's a combination of lag and the low tick rate from the server. My ping is usually around 50ms, which isn't fast, but also not really slow. I don't see it jumping up and down. Yesterday I hooked a player that ended up landing behind me instead of in front of me. It's just plain weird.

Edit:
I've also learned that one of the biggest struggles I've had with macbook pro gaming is that Apple has a shitty cooling design, and the laptop can't really handle the thermal output of the components they put inside it. Framerate will tank because the components overheat. If my apartment changes a couple of degrees, it'll make a big difference in the game performance. Frame limiter is your friend in this case. I'm trying to play at 60fps and I can stay very close to that, and the frame limiter seems to help in making sure my gpu is not doing extra work. Turning the frame limiter on actually increases my frame rate because my laptop doesn't overheat. I've turned my display brightness down as well.

For real is there anyone out there who wants to group up? All my buddies are getting married and shit and my b.net friends seem to only play diablo (Malo...) :( Hell I'll even play with Al at this point. The game is way more fun with a group.
