OUYA - Android console

Yeah, that's what it seems like to me. I'd be wary of buying one just because it seems so flimsily supported. But put a Google behind it, and I think it'd be much more compelling, and the very fact you could buy it without fear of it being a dead product would make it much more attractive.

I think it's got a 4 core Tegra 3 at 1.7 ghz, so at least it's aggressive there. I wonder roughly how that is in console terms, I forget.

Tegra 3 is around PS2-ish quality though with a more modern architecture in programmable shaders. Something around 7-8 GFLOPS? Tegra 4 is around 96 GFLOPS, which is quite a jump. Shame that won't be coming to the Ouya until next year I'd say.

As for Google supporting products, one does not get inspired with confidence with seeing how the Nexus Q was handled. The fact that product was ever let outside out of the labs is actually quite concerning, especially at a $299 price point. Any product manager with some sense would have said "Hell no."
