This is the actual quote of cpiasminc:

"What I hear is every bit as much a rumor as what everybody else hears. I haven't seen any hardware documentation myself, either. In fact, I don't think I brought up anything that differs from what everybody else has heard over the several months of speculation and is largely based on that old block diagram that was "leaked" a long time ago. And even among those who have seen real technical specs, it's pretty well stated to be a living document -- nothing is pinned down"

Are those who were willing to defend him feeling a bit foolish now?

LOL, of course not. Do you feel satisfied for starting this whole thread by the way? Cpiasminc never said he had any inside information, except with regard to the edram, and even then he acknowledged it was what he had heard from people at ATI and Microsoft.

Your whole obsession with core numbers should never have latched on to his post to begin with.

Errr...why should we? Ever heard of integrity?

Or try re-reading everything that's been posted... maybe spelling it out so that it's clearer...how about accepting the likelyhood that the 'leaked specs' are actually not that far off...or actaully that bad...and no final specs have been 'locked down'...and that 'hardware docs' are working docs...maybe, just maybe could also exlain why there is still no Xenon official announcements yet...

And why was this thread created again btw? To discuss a so called leak revealing new information to the rabid console world?

Acert93 - nice breakdown of that post & his opinions on page 3 of this thread. I agree to a large extent with what you're saying. now, I've gotta re-read your substantial post :)

I do think that we will see quite a few first generation 60fps games. even launch games. perhaps even a few launch games or later 1st gen games (within the first year) that are both 720p and a fairly stable 60fps.

interesting.

well, all i can say now, is that probably, between now and E3, we will have SOME of our questions answered.

wait, that is so obvious. but you know what i mean.

I would expect that the FIRST games for X-Box 2 would be mostly 60+ FPS because they won't push the system very hard. That won't happen until second or third generation games arrive.

BTW, the current X-Box hasn't broken Moores law. It's better than PS2, but that's mostly because it came out much later. It was somewhat better than then-current PCs, but that's true of any console upon intial release. It wasn't really anything insanely groundbreaking for the time that it was released. If anything, I would expect X-Box 2 to be a little bit more ahead of the curve because it has mostly custom hardware rather than off-the-shelf components.

Was it supposed to? :?

I'm not aware of any requirement for a console processors to have the highest transistor density possible, unless I'm missing something... They're usually meant to be reasonably cost effective...

LOL, I was thinking the same thing.

But regardless of how it happened, it's pretty clear Moore's Law has been co-opted to apply strictly to performance gains nowadays. And even THAT's recent. At least it's association with MHz has begun to die off.

This poor Mr Moore must be the most used person by fanboys trying to make their dreams come true. The guy only made a prediction for transistor count increase over time, and from that day he was cursed. Till the end of time people will use him to prove their arguments.

You can take a word out of context in a sentence, you can take a sentence out of context in a paragraph, you can take a paragraph out of context in a post, you can take a post out of context in a thread and you can take a thread out of context in a forum...

In summary, God help us all when official specs are released for all three consoles...and the true console fanboi wars start...
