We've talked about this all day now. So where do you stand as far as the Xbox 360 is concerned? Feel free to comment or just place your vote. Thanks.

I'm going with the Premium version as well because I'm a hardcore gamer.

Even though I think MS is milking us to the max. :p

Unless the console and games get very, very cheap, some time after not at lauch but neither anytime soon (1+++ years at least).

Still getting ONE at launch, but the announcement killed off my plans for two... and now I just read in my xbox 360 training stuff, that the damn remote that comes with the premium package is NOT the full version remote...nickel and diming, nickel and diming...DAMN!

So, here's the quick low down...

Q: When will Xbox 360 be in stores?
A: This holiday season. Stay tuned for more details.

Q: Why are there two Xbox 360 editions?
A: The Xbox 360 will be available in two SKUs (Xbox 360 and Xbox 360 Core System) to give consumers the flexibility to enter the immersive, high definition world of Xbox 360 gaming. The two editions give you and your customers the flexibility to enter the immersive, high definition world of Xbox 360 gaming and build toward the complete Xbox 360 entertainment experience. Xbox 360 empowers consumers to customize and upgrade their experiences by selecting accessories that suit their individual entertainment preferences.

Q: What comes with Xbox 360?
A: Xbox 360 is for gamers who want the ultimate digital entertainment thrill ride (and the best value) right out of the box. This premium edition - distinguished by signature metallic detailing on the console itself - comes fully loaded with all the features of the Core System plus a wireless controller, an Xbox 360 Headset, a detachable hard drive (for storing music, video and games, and more), an Ethernet cable, Component HD AV cable and for a limited time, a bonus media remote. At $399.99 U.S., Xbox 360 is for gamers who want the ultimate digital entertainment thrill ride (and the best value) right out of the box.

Q: What comes with Xbox 360 Core System?
A: The Xbox 360 Core System comes standard with what consumers need to jump right into next generation games and media and is fully expandable to the complete Xbox 360 experience. With the Core System consumers will get Xbox features including progressive scan DVD, CD and MP3 Playback out of the box, an Xbox 360 Controller, the ability to connect to Xbox Live, and an S Video cable. At $299.99 U.S., the Xbox 360 Core System comes standard with what consumers need to jump right into next generation games and media and is fully expandable to the complete Xbox 360 experience.

Q: Why will an Xbox 360 Media Remote only be offered with Xbox 360 for a limited time?
A: Holiday units of Xbox 360 (not Xbox 360 Core System) will ship with a bonus media remote while supplies last. This remote is a non-retail smaller version of the Universal Media Remote that will be sold ongoing at retail as an accessory.

Q: Why are you now charging for the hard drive?
A: We want to expand the Xbox experience to different audiences. By offering choice to consumers we allow consumers the flexibility to enter the immersive, high definition world of Xbox 360 gaming and build toward the complete Xbox 360 entertainment experience.

Q: Where can I find out more about the Xbox 360 accessories?
A: Be sure to visit xbox360.com for more information on the sixteen Xbox 360 accessories available this holiday season.

Q: Is Xbox 360 backward compatible?
A: Yes. Our plan and our goal is to make every original Xbox game run on Xbox 360. We've focused first naturally on the top-selling titles.
EDIT: FROM ONE OF THEIR SLIDES "The Hard Drive is included with the Xbox 360 System. It is an upgrade option for the Xbox 360 Core System. A hard drive is required to play original Xbox games."

Q: Where do I get more information?

I'm cheap so I chose the 2nd one.

I'm not getting one this year anyways( maybe next summer). I gotta devote my funds towards my college education.

Will you buy memory cards instead?   .

Then you popbably will spend more than 100 soon.

Where is the option, "Waiting for more information on the PS3 and PS3 software before I make a decision" ??

Solid hardware, HD on my PC monitor, Live, solid software support with games I am interested in (Halo, PGR, Forza, etc... although the PS3 usually has great car games) + a friend who will be getting a 360 and wants to use it to play/chat has me interested. I am a big FPS/Sports gamer and PS3/Xbox should be about equal in sports, and FPS is a MS strength (unless Sony allows KB/MS!!)

But $400, $60 a game, $50 for the VGA cable, $30 for extra controller, etc... OUCH! I am looking at over $550 at launch, after taxes, for 1 game and a console  Make that $600 if I have to pay for Live Gold (i.e. not included with the Premium Package). Like my wife said, that is like the cost of another PC... I can get a nice barebones SFF PC for that price

So I am gonna wait and see how PS3 pricing/software is shaping up. While PGR is a killer next gen app, MotorStorms theme has me interested. If they can get graphics/gameplay similar to the videos that would have me very geeked out. Warhawk looks interesting as well.

If the PS3 comes in at $400, no additional cost for online, and have a VGA cable I and the 1st gen software is showing polish (by fall it should... the extra time PLUS dev kits with CELL system + SLI 6800U is very similar performance to final HW and should allow devs to put forth a better leg than the 360 software on the Alpha kits).

I am expecting only 2, maybe 3, really good games at the Xbox launch (Madden is a wild card... will it look next gen or upgraded PC graphics?) If that is the case, as much as I want to play PGR3 (drool!) I may wait until fall 2006 and see how the software compares.

In a scary way, fall 2006 software will have had similar development time on final dev kits  That should give me a good idea of how devs are getting used to the new hardware and what it means for their game vision.

i.e. How good will Halo 3 be (I am doubting a 2006 launch... expect in 2007!) and what will Sony have to match it that interests me (Killzone? Better be better than the PS2 version!)

Anyhow, add another option to the poll: Waiting to see if the 360 justifies the cost versus the competition.

Also... "Waiting for jet black SKU" hehehe

Jesus Christ, they throw in a bonus remote and people still aren't satisfied! :???: :)

Its not about the remote per se. Its more about...if I want full functionality, I am still going to have to buy the other remote. (actually I am assuming my Logitec Harmony will handle all the functions, so need for the remote, in my case)

I'm just bitter at the moment, and its not so much about the price, but about all of the training material that I've ever had has gone against what was mentioned at the conference. All in all I think MSFT will be fine, but I think for most it will mean less games. I am just going to cancel my second pre-order and put that 3 bills towards games,LIVE, and maybe 2 or 3 controllers.

That is good idea, I would be nice if S and N has separated.

I'm waiting till a hack/mod's been figured out to make the console(s) region free. Hell if I'm buying 2 $400 consoles for each system. $1600 + $60 games. Please. No love for importers.

I would've preferred the barebones version and ugraded as necessary, but looking at the prices for the upgrades, it just makes more sense to get the premium version. I will probably wait until December to get one though.

Exactly

Premium for me. As PC-Engine stated...the Premium version is more logical to get if your ever planning on getting the "other" accessories. I would be kicking myself in the ass if I get the "core" version and then decide I want all the other peripherals in the "premium" version...which obviously (in the worst case scenario) cost you about the same as another "core" version of the 360.

I wasn´t planning on getting an Xbox360 at launch, I was waiting to see what japanese RPGs it was going to get and how Lost Odisey turned out. Heck, I´m even going to wait a year to buy PS3, then see how Rev and X360 are doing to see which one to get.

What´s got me puzzled is if some people are really disgusted at the price, why do they agree on being abused by the price? Why not simply not get it and wait for a price drop? It´s not like it´s not going to be there next year, and probably with a GH-esque line waiting to boot.

It´s like a guy yelling "bloody murder, these prices SUCK!! DAMN YOU MS!!!" while standing in line with his wallet open ready to fork over the cash.:p

I don't really care about the 400$ price. IF the hdd was standard in the core system it would actualyl be a good price. However the hdd has ben downgraded to a big memory card and most of the things in the premium package are not finished.

I.e wireless controller. You have to buy 12$ battery pack , 29.99 $ charger kit or spend a fortune on batterys .

If there was one package and i knew thatl ater on games would take advantage of the hardrive the n it would be fine . If there was 2 packages with hdds in both it would be fine . Splintering the market and then adding in fluff to a package and pricing components extremely high is just a poor move and I really see it biting ms in the ass

EDIT: I´d better get my ideas straight.:D I agree with most of your points (although a console above $300 is still ridiculous in my book), but my comment was refering to the guys shacking their fists in anger while still getting the more expensive pacakge. I´m just saying, if you don´t like the price of the console and accesories, why not wait for a price drop?

Others are angry that they were lied to, and yet they´re still getting it. It´s just a very strange attitude: "I HAVE TO GET ONE, I JUST HAVE TO GET ONE NO MATTER WHAT!!". That´s the same kind of attitude anime and Yu Gi Oh fans I know have.:p
