2005/06 is not getting soon enough!

 

Hahha yea.. It seems so far away because we know very little, however in 2004 some concrete details will be known, everyone on these forums and over the internet will be talking, and the time will fly by. Before you know it, you will own a PS3

If you have AIM or something we can talk over that if you want.

 

Well, when the PS3 comes out, I plan on being the first one in line (and be the first one to put it on reserve) . I'm buying 3 PS3s, one the house, the other two to be put on eBay! LOL!

 

seeing what happened with ps2, that would actually be a great idea.... people were selling ps2 at likedouble the price because of shortages,...

 

Paul - that was exellent, what you posted on the last page with
PSX PS2 and possible PS3 graphics comparasion.

I have no trouble whatsoever believing that PS3 can do FFX CG graphics in-game. that should be the standard. even in the first generation of software.


guys, are there any other examples of PS2 CG cut scenes that you would like to post, or mention, that impresses you?


also, about when we'll see more on PS3. well 2004 should be that year. 2004 will be like 1999, when PS2 was unvieled. first in March, whent he chips & specifications, and demos. then at E3 more demos (even something you could play with) then in the fall, the system case was revealed. IIRC.

 

I also see PS3's specs being unveiled in 2004, probably at GDC? If you think about it.. it's not far away, not even a year.

If they don't unveil it then, then I am at a loss at when they will do it.

Here's my timeline.

GDC 2004: First specs are announced, along with tech demo's.

E3 2004: System is brought under more detail, system is showed off. Final specs are outlayed. Games are shown and announced.

Sometime in 2005: System is launched in Japan

Late 2005/early 06: System is launched in USA.

Early 2007: Sony unveils and hints at new mystery chip capable of 1 petaflops.

^ LOL.

And then it starts over again.



When do you guys think we are going to see some news and major rumous/leaks for PS3? Like on the gaming sites such as IGN and the such.

 

Indeed, PS2 has progressed a lot in terms of graphics comparing to PSX, I will expect the jump from PS2 to PS3 to be more than that.

The leap from in game to FMV isn't as huge now, so it's obvious that games next gen ONLY have THAT BAR to reach, which is FMV.

Obviously they will not hit final fantasy the movie graphics, so FMV is it.

I don't see what else graphics could hit next gen besides FMV. There is no middle between what we are seeing now and FMV like there was from PSX to ps2.

I wonder what games will look like that aim for a more realistic look other than like a FFX FMV. I have always used this example of what a MGS game could look like next gen and i'll post it again.



Let's all find more examples of what PS3 games could look like next gen, i'll be on the hunt as well.

Looking at those DC3 FMV's it almost seems unbelieveable that ps3 would be able to do that.

As you can see, the quality isnt *far* removed.

 

Indeed, even just for FMV, FF X-2 has improvement over FF-X








I would like the FF on PS3 to be like the above FMVs in PS2.

 

It just looks unreal looking at it.. I mean, I can't even begin to think how graphics could be like that in a game scenario.

It's almost too good to be true, although I know we will see this.

The FMV of FFX-2 seems roughly the same quality to me as FFX but if there is a difference, I dont see it yet. but anyway, yeah, graphics like that should be the norm, on PS3. given that we are going to have a
200~300x improvement in raw spec alone.


I also agree with your timeline on PS3 unvieling. give or take a month.

 

the other CGs are also about in line with what I expect of PS3. nice clean image quality this time. adaquate anti-aliasing
(i hope its better & more AA than todays PC VPUs)

the amount of geometry there should be childs play for next-gen consoles.

 

I guess Kutagari and his friends will get their dream then, real time CG.

I also guess that they will achieve the 1000X total power of ps2 as well, once everything is added up.

Gotta hand it to the people at SCEI, they are incredible. They could just release a system with the power of 10 ps2's and sell millions. But they want to release a system that is costing them billions in the R&D to make, thank god for Sony is all I gotta say.

Sony constantly pushes the bar, making better competition so other companies make better consoles.

 

IMO, the atmosphere, motions and emotions are better rendered and look better and more natural than those in FF-X, the FMVs in FF-X is not very consistent., some sections are closer to FF X-2. (I have extracted them all off their game disc and watched them many many times).

 

Well, that´s great, but Square kind of ruined Yuna´s face in FFX-2´s FMV. It looks, I dn´t know, very strange and somewhat unnatural. I haven´t seen it in motion though.

 

I'd love to see SH2 FMV quality graphics in the next gen..

I can't find any pictures of James in the mirror in the beginning.. help? That, to me, would be incredible (especially with the reflections).
