nVnews shenanigans.

I think I can confirm (or at least agree to) what Joerg have said. I was not aware of any NVIDIA helping hand during my presence at nvnews. Mike talked to me about the server / how much he paid and who would be admining it (it was quite some time ago heh), so I don't know where that kind of info comes from.

Have you cheeked out if Nvidia paid Mike the money to get a new server?
Mike could have got paid from Nvidia and then paid this guy that way.

its possible either way... I just put the info there since you said what you believed you saw was bothering you... I don't know anymore than what joerg has explained...

They're running the shaders in partial precision compared to ATi running 'em right, it ain't apples to oranges.

Which of course has absolutely nothing to do with what we were talking about.

I just looked in the NVnews archives. There is a message on all the small updates to the fourms but the one about the fourms are down because we are puting in a new server is gone. The message I saw was to let ppl know that the fourms were down because of the install of the new server. It DID SAY thank Nvidia and had about 2 to 3 other company names with it for the new server. As I said before, It was there but was gone in less then an hour.
I didn't think too much about it at the time but when all the crap started in the fourms then it makes me wounder. Any one that sais there was no message at all is lieing or don;t know what there talking about.
I DID SEE THAT MESSAGE!

I don't know. I never seen one, I can only agree with what Joerg posted :)

I believe you Snipe, and I don't think the webhost would be the one who would be putting up the contents of the away message. (I don't know, it ain't how it works at EB)

The way I see that it would all make sense if everyone was telling the truth is if Mike DID put up that message because he felt that those companies had contributed to his success which enabled him to afford a better server or he had gotten donations directly from those companies so he could pay for a better server, but then he thought the message might be misunderstood or leave him open to unwanted criticism so he decided to try and make it un-so....but Snipe had already seen it.

The only one who can answer that one is Mike, and he's oddly silent on the matter. :|

To be honest your last sentence does not really build your case up as coming from a credible witness. If your reading is as bad as your writing then MikeC could have written

Thanks to Ati for the new server

for all we know.

Ditto what volt said. And to be fair, even if NVNews was to thank NV in a message, why would it be a big deal? We all know that NVNews's focus has mostly been on NV hardware. And it has been from Day 1. Without NV support of the site in the form of video cards, there wouldn't be a site there today.

Some one else had to seen that message. I can't be the only one. I always go to the front page first before going into the fourm. Looks like im the only one that does this.

Heh, then digi's DEFINITELY never seen that... :p

I put a post over at Nvnews in the open forms to see if any one seen the same message about the fourms being down because of the new server being installed.

ediit.

Its been closed now!!
ragejg closed it. There is nothing wrong with it unless there is somthing to hide.

ragejg, am I suppost to PM every nvnews member?

Jeeze RageJG, what are you off about?

RageJG at nVnews said:
Your intentions=known.

Many eyes watch this thread (already), as well as the one over @ B3d...

Quit beating around the bush and make your question a little clearer, and maybe you'll get your answer from the person you're looking for...

Then re-opened the thread and said:
On second though, I do find this a tad bit reprehensible due to the fact that you've read gafami's post, you've seen the statements made by Tim and SH, and yet you still decide to attempt to stir up FUD.

take care of your issue through PM's...

Now RageJG, his question is still a valid one in spite of what everyone has written! MikeC still could have put that message up and nothing short of someone else confirming seeing the message or MikeC denying it will show any otherwise!

Closing a thread like that is EXACTLY what I've been talking about as nVnews being "unwelcoming" lately!

EDITED BITS: Busted trying to ninja edit a bad quote format.

...

I have a problem with threads that beat around the bush, that don't address the issue directly... besides, what you're trying to figure out is for no good, is a waste of time, it only feeds the flames... jeebus.

NO, don't pm every member, PM the staff, PM MikeC. Don't beat around the bush on my watch, esp re: something that's non benificial to ANYONE,and only takes away precious gaming/spamming time!! :p

Why don't you just ask Mike and tell us? Or have him do it?

It would clear it all up. :)

ragejg, Im not beating around the bush. You must be afraid that other members will post that they saw the same thing. That thread was to gather info but yall don't want me to gather info looks like.

There is a thing callled 'Broadening your Horizons', hardware today is much better than 5 years ago. Why limit yourself to one brand

I mean they had a chance, even Terry M. was posting there, until the gang that couldn't figure out how to screw in a light bulb started showing up.
I read that one thread about complaints on submitting bugs to ATI from some 'moderators'...well they need to spend more time in their forceware driver section, reality check

I might add I think some people in this thread are only there to stir the pot :devilish:

I don't care if it was there!!

...

I DO NOT appreciate how it was brought up over there. THAT was beating around the bush...

And to boot, that's exactly what the problem was with this whole issue... that nobody just directly asked the questions off the bat. No. Let's start a big thread that branches off in multiple directions complete with speculation, and THEN let's go over there and ask.... a bit backwards...

And your post followed suit, and was dealt with accordingly.

I don't see the huge improvements in speed just by going to a 9800 XT.

That chart is pretty outdated, cat 3.9s vs 52.16 forceware.

Besides, I think it's against the rules here to use either [T]'s or [A]'s stuff as proof of anything except possible IHV bias. :|

How about posting link to a review that supposedly isn't biased, uses the latest drivers and which shows the 9800 XT outperform the 5950 Ultra by a large margin then (in Halo of course) ?

(i'm not saying that it doesn't exist, just that i prefer to have some evidence rather then just "that chart is pretty outdated... Tom is biased..")

for you bjorn.. am on my lunch break so bear with me here :D

amongst others...

I gave up when I saw the same pattern everywhere...

clearly now there will be more screams of ultimate bias and what not by these particular sites as well in some peoples minds

Dear Sazar and Co!

Actually it's funny to see these 'soldiers' of these so-called 'news sites' or whatever is the usual word for these amateur sites...
The main problem is there's nobody with real journalistic experience or background. It's pretty obvious for me.
I published tons of reports and articles over the 90s in REAL newspapers (weekly, monthly - I even got my own two-page monthly section finally) and tv news (mostly eco-news) and I think VERY FEW websites gets even close to the thing we called professional standards.

Because, dear web-new-whatever editors, this is a PROFESSION.
Being like this it supposed to be LEARNED, not experienced, my mates - there's NO WAY to learn journalism on your own.

Self-teaching isn't working in this field, my dear web-posters, although I have to admit there are a few sites which still counted as 'clear' on my list - but really few...

NVN isn't one of them - just check this case.

This particular case, as Hanners pointed out its essence, is about the 'profession' again: somebody posted something on his news site, in a very confusing way. When it - the way he did it - has been questioned, 'soldiers' claimed it wasn't intentional.
I actually believe this - because this is the 100% clear evidence they weren't even aware of whole possibility. That's the clear sign of amateur approach. It's not an actual wrongdoin' or something - it's just a very typical, common manner of these "news" sites nowadays.

PS: No offense here - just hard to see when somebody talking about a profession which is obviously absolutely unknown for him (if not, that's even worst)...
