nVIDIA RSX - Native RGB color space output?

Shoot, after reading this I decided to see if my TV could auto detect the full rgb signal in it's auto mode for hdmi. Sadly it can't. I have to manually force the 0-255 mode. So even though it would be more correct for games switching between hdmi modes for games and movies would suck :(. Guess it's good I couldn't see a difference anyways, hehe.

Are you talking about a Pioneer KURO Plasma? ;)

It's been a while, I didn't know this topic was still being debated. But I think given the new information (especially the THX shots), the PS3 firmware has a bug. It can't pass BTB and SW when converting from YCbCr to RGB Full, it simply ignores them when expanding from 15-235 of YCbCr (from the disc) to 0-255 of RGB (in the RSX buffer, and to the HDMI 1.3 for your HDMI 1.3 HDTV with 1.3's 0-255 primary color support). If it is not a bug then movies shouldn't be played back in Full RGB, but only via YCbCr to get the BTB and SW signals.

Well given this new info, and the problem with old HDTV displays, I think I know why there is so much confusion... People have old HDTV sets that have not upgraded to the new testing protocols allowing 0-255.

In any case, I've updated the page at:

http://www.edepot.com/playstation3.html

to include these new info, and added some early PS3 models (the Reference Tools). I think I got most of them right, but am missing some info, like DD2 DD3 DD3.1... What is the difference between Type B and Type C GPU. And whether the January, 2006 release looks like the September 2006 Reference Tool (in size, but with some grey in the front panel, instead of all black like the Sept 2006 photo leak. And what is the model number of that Jan, 2006 release, and what is the model of that Sep, 2006 release. I am thinking maybe the page is wrong and CEB-2050 is the slim one (like the all black September, 2006 leak) so it would actually be the entry for Jan, 2006 and
essentially is a PS3 Evaluation with the slimmer box but not a cytology big box.

Since it is over 2 years since this info and the fact that DECR models have been
released, I think these info should be ok to release, so maybe someone can
point out some things so the page looks better. Doe the current DECR have the exact same model numbers as the
Sep 2006 photo leaks? I know they look the same, but don't know if they are same model number. Thanks.

I think this is blatantly wrong. The reason is most movies *are* encoded on limited colour range and hence most discs DO NOT contain 0-255 information they instead contain 16-235. If you take such a movie that is 16-235 the only option is to stretch to 0-255 as there is no more magic information. If you are disagreeing please provide sample material that can show ps3 is doing the conversion wrong.
