nVidia release new all singing all dancing dets.

Sigh....

Benchmark figures from Quake 3 can be timewarped back two years for all I care, there have been many improvements to that engine to make it more current..MOHAA or Wolfenstein...so no IMO they are not valid.

This is why driver threads shouldn't be here, people base 'wow these drivers rock' I got 500 more 3Dmarks..well as shown many times to you Neeyik 3Dmarks is not ACCURATE.

Rev's scores show that the performance in Tiger Woods is the same, but it feels more smooth. Earlier I had a pretty choppy experience in that game for some reason. Better now.

Hmm where I have I seen that picture before DT? Oh yeah thats right, in every discussion you take part in :-?

OK, makes more sense.

0x - point sampling
1x - isotropic filter (bilinear or trilinear)
2x, 4x, 8x - anisotropic filter at given degree of anisotropy

Only thing that doesn't make sense is why anybody would want to force point sampling.

Wow, that means the driver defaults to 0x (I am not awared at first), I am not willing to spend anymore time in benchmarking (while playing my games on my PS2 at the moment, racing - Auto Modellista), I think someone else who is more into benchmarking will give the numbers here then.

Alright guys, for anyone having problems with the control panel not working:

Taken from Warp2Seach:

Anonymous writes "The new 40.41 Detonators' Control Panel doesn't work if you had installed a localized older Detonator before. To solve the problem, simply delete the 2 obsolete Files nvrsXX.dll and nvcpXX.hlp in your windowssystem32 folder , where XX is your language code. Additionally the file nvqtwk.dll from older drivers isn't needed anymore so you should also delete it to be sure.

Wait a minute..does that not make it relevent here ?? Neeyik is saying 3Dmark is a accurate way of determining game performance and until he acknowledges that is incorrect I'll post it all day.

There has been alot of benchmarks thrown up by you and other members that show exactly the point I'm trying to make..game benchmarks are flat which is what really matters to us...GAME performance..

BTW thx for everyone thats taken the time to do them, I know its a pain in the ass to do.

Some Morrowind screenies, using the new drivers on a GF4, showing the different AF settings; they've been Photoshopped so that they're brighter (game looks fine but screen dumps are oh-so dark):

One does have to wonder why an option to force point sampling exists in the drivers...

Is 0x the default setting for either (or both) D3D / OpenGL?

0x is the default setting for Direct3D.

In OpenGL u only have: Disabled, 2x, 4x, 8x

In Direct3D u a have: 0x, 1x, 2x, 4x, 8x

One question:
I compiled the NV30 effects, enabled NV30 emulation, but it asks for "glut32" dll under WinXP.

Where can I get it?

Aquanox would be a good one, since it supports Pixel Shaders and that seems where the speed is coming from ??
Anyone have the benchmark demo ?

It is the default setting for me on D3D, I set to 8x before in GeForce Tweaker of OpenGL and it is in the setting in OpenGL page.

0x is the default setting for Direct3D.

Well then the next question is obvious:

Would someone run 3D Mark with Aniso at 0x and 1x, and see if there's any performance difference? Are all the D3D scores we've been seeing so far taken with point sampling?

dear lord, look at that wall in the 0x....

DoomTrooper - do you make it a habit of taking what other people say, remove words that you don't like and insert some that weren't there in the first place? To the best of my memory, I don't recall saying that 3DMark scores are accurate game performance guides - in fact, I never said the word "accurate" once. It's you who keeps churning it up. I'm saying that 3DMark is valid as a comparative benchmark tool, in order to show improvements within drivers - I've already said that I don't think benchmarks as a whole are useful for judging game performance.

But never mind, keep on posting that Kyro graph - one day somebody will thank you for it :D

Joe - I've not checked the other tests but the fill rate scores are identical between 0x and 1x, but drop substancially with 2x (with 4x and 8x having the same results as 2x).

Ok you acknowledged you've seen it..I won't post it anymore...

Thx I was getting really tired of posting it

I think Aquanox would show Pixel Shader improvements if the driver isn't optimized for one App...thats why I think its a good test.

Yeah, I'm not expecting any real difference in performance (as bilinear should be "free"), but just for sanity's sake, I would like to see the complet 3D mark score break-down with 0x and 1x.

While it's odd that the 0x feature is included, it's odder still that it is the default for D3D...

On a related note....

Since 0x is point sampling, It doesn't appear that there is a control panel setting for "application preference" in terms of filtering settings for D3D. Is that true, or am I missing something?
