NVIDIA GF100 & Friends speculation

So my first post on this topic, which said, "Average defect counts were 34-45 per wafer, and are now down to 11-34 per wafer" is wrong as that doesn't take account of layers.

Thanks for the explanation.

We have also learned that the smaller version of the Geforce GTX 4xx is supposed to cost about 300 to 400 Euros and the top model about 500 to 600 Euros.

Minimum rating of 42A on the 12v rail would be ~500 watts correct? Wish I could see the details on the "****" Next to it. After looking around for a 5970 rating on the same matter, came up with people saying mid 30's. Is there something I'm missing here besides if they are talking full system wattage capacity? (Sorry for any wording issues, has been a long long night/morning)

depends on the quality of the PSU, for the gtx 280 nV recommends a minimum of 40 amps on the 12v rail and 550 watts. If you have a solid PSU I'm sure you don't need that much, but most PSU's out there don't give stable power, so that's what the higher requirements are for.

Lack of visible edit button.

Disregard that last post. As pointed out to me a GTX285 had a recommendation of 40A on the 12v rails. So power consumption is just about the same. Still scratching my head just a bit at the reason for such a high recommendation beyond including a higher end system in the rec specs. Might just be lack of sleep causing a lack of reason.

Probably something like, "Or combined rails equal to or greater than that", since a lot of PSUs have multiple 12v rails.

EDITED BITS: "Lack of visible edit button.", you don't get to edit your posts until after you have at least 10. Just how the system works here, please don't take it personally. ;)

Lack of edit and sniped on top of it. Such a glorious start to coming out of lurking the forums -.-. Thank you razor.

LOL np, I think you need some minimum requirements of your own here to see the edit button 10 posts or something like that

~$475 for 470. That suggests it is quite a bit faster than a 5870.
Or that Nvidia believes it offers better performance in certain/proprietary areas (TWIMPTB titles, Folding, Cuda, Phsyx, etc). Just wondering if you're using a direct conversion from euro to dollar or if you're factoring VAT and other price hiking factors.

(Also thanks for warm welcome. Will be seeing more of me, and I swear to get that edit button some day!)

300 euro to 400 euro is a curiously wide number ... has NVIDIA simply not decided yet or are they simply not telling their AIBs yet?

Good luck with getting people to cough up money if you lose in games.

Direct conversion. Sorry.

He just added the direct conversions: ~400 USD (300 euros) with ~550 (400 euros) and divided by 2.

I'm still betting on 399 USD for the GTX 470.

Although costing 399 USD, doesn't exactly mean it will cost 300 euros. Quite the opposite. It will probably still cost 400 euros, as is usually the case: 399 USD is converted to 399 euros...

Is that a Tier 1 Manufacturer?

Of course my question is not simply rethoric. But there were some rumours about nVIDIA supplying only Tier 1 AIB like eVGA and BFG. So can we consider those rumours false?

Or can this be some kind of manouver to counter those assumptions?

Also the box is a GeForce GTX480. If supply was so constrained as rumours say, would an almost unknown AIB be actually receiving them?

I think that both the rumors and your assumptions are correct.

What I mean is: NVIDIA is indeed most likely giving priority to Tier 1 partners, but this unknown AIB is still showing off the goods it will eventually be able to sell. Showing a box, doesn't mean they will have a huge stock of products, as is not even expected from Tier 1 AIBs.
