They used to be much more entertaining when the shock value was still high.
This month will be interesting as we see how xb360 sales did after their price drop.
PS3 will also be a bit interesting too. Seeing how their sales maintain after their value-add/price-drop.
Wii will sell out - again... 400k+
A friend of mine recently purchased a Wii (his only nextgen (or last gen, now) console). He plays Madden, Zelda, Metroid etc. Very casual gamer, but also cheap.
Recently, instead of buying the Wii version of Madden, he bought the GC version. I asked "why" figuring he would want the unique wii-controls. Well, he would have, but he already had the extra GC controllers and the GC version was $10 cheaper.
How many others did the same thing, I have no idea, but just a sample scenario for why Wii sales may be a bit lower in a ~casual game like Madden.
NPD threads are the main reason i come to this forum, due to their entertainment value
the only interest this month is if wii breaks 500k (itll be close i think)
xb360 250k + ps3 150k.
(edit) those numbers are for 4 weeks, if its 5 weeks then multiple by 1.25, ie wii 600+k !! (did the ps2 ever achieve that)
next month will be better entertainment, what with the launch of halo3 + the high expectations

I'm curious what effect it will have on hardware sales. I know software wise it will move quite a few, but HW attach will be interesting to see.
I'm not expecting much as every sku they offer currently is still priced outside the scope of what most consider "mainstream".
If they intro a packin of some sort around Christmas time with a core and H3 for a reasonable price, perhaps that will move units. $350 (or $280) is still too much to ask for the average joe IMO.

Matt lied to us, PS3 didn't do similar to last month. At least imo.
360-nice n solid, though not outstanding. Borderline outstanding I suppose, for such a measly cut.
Wii- same as last month.
Everything else, meaning basically Sony hardware, fairly weak.

Consumers are kinda stupid. First, they snapped up the 499 60GB PS3, when they had shunned the 499 20GB PS3 sku previously available. Now, they snap up 360 after a very weak price cut..

I'm going to summarize this thread before it happens. Here are the major points that will be presented and argued to death.
PS3 needs a price cut.
Xbox360 sells a lot of software
Wii doesn't sell a lot of software
PS3 is barely on the charts for software.
Also, my favourite console is better than your favourite console.

This is 360's actual bestselling month ever, non-holiday, except for April of 06, which was when it finally became un-supply constrained and saw a huge surge to 295,000.
A couple of other months had higher raw 360 sales (Jan 07 and June 07), but they were both 5 week months.

thoughts....
1. PS3 needs to hit $399 yesterday and $299 asap just to stay competitive. Instead of catching up Sony is in danger of being lapped. Developers wont put any effort in cell optimizations if this trend continues. I forsee a lot of "lazy" aka bare minimum 360 ports. (like th xbox1 had from the ps2)
2. Wii sells great by the people who buy aren't into 3rd party software. It's the console to own and be seen sitting in your living room for Mario and party games.
3. 360 needs to hit $299 premium to dominate mainstream homes this xmas. They have the software just not the right price. I think $299 is the new $199 this gen.
4. DS sells like hotcakes but i have no friends who have one and have never seen anyone playing one outside of a retail kiosk. creepy.

Wii = amazing hardware numbers. Seems like casuals just want one and play with it. Aren't much into the game scene thus you don't see high software sales.
360 = nice bump in hardware for a 4 week period. Software wise, if you're developer, this platform should make you drool! Make a good game and it WILL sell.
PS3 = Might as well look forward to september. It'll be interesting to see how well Lair, Warhawk and Heavely Sword do. Not just in terms of software but also sales push.

Well PS3 is definitely in trouble after its sales are falling back down so fast after the price drop. Oh and good sales for 360.

BTW Scott I would hope no one would argue the XBox360 sells a lot of software based on these charts or everyone except the PS3 sells a lot of software. To bad NPD doesn't get online distribution numbers from Steam since curious how Bioshock did on Steam.
