Anyone can make a good looking flatscreen.
Just put it in a glossy black frame with some discreet leds and controls, there you have a stylish plasma!

... quess I'll just have to google the goodlooking japanese panasonics myself then.
...their d-snap range looks good (portable mp3, digicams..), but the Diga range DVD gear seems to be the same ugly ones that are available elsewhere.

Not only was the difference in space much more apparent and much more needed with CD/DVD than with DVD/Bluray/HDDVD, DVD was much further along in it's development. By the time PS2 hit, there were DVD players in millions of people's homes, thousands of titles were released, and every video store carried them. Everyone knew it was "the next big thing". You could walk out onto the street and ask anyone and they'd know about DVD, and would probably tell you they planned on getting one once the prices dropped a bit. Ask people now about Blueray and you're likely to get a big "huh" out of 95+% of the populace. The mindshare just isn't there to make it an attractive selling point to most of the public.

Just for the record i think any game that didn't use cgi on the saturn and psx could have fit on one disc . Even the big games like pds had a ton of cgi that if you used in game models and scripted it the game would have fit on half as many discs .

yeah..

the first ridgeracer was 2mbyte big! (the rest of the CDrom was filled with CDAUDIO tracks )

That would be a good trick considering Apple can't get a chip from IBM to slap in a Powerbook yet.
i don't thin it's too out of the question...

At just 1.75 inches thick, the Xserve 1U form factor enables you to deploy a formidable array of up to 84 G5 processors in a 42U rack that makes the best possible use of the floor space in your server room or data center. The server units have been designed to fit industry-standard four-post and telco racks, and come complete with all the required mounting hardware.

IRT "next generation media" i think the whole thing is getting out of hand. with a more modern video codec than mpeg2 you can fit a feature length movie in high def in about 4-5GB. few games require more space than can fit on a double layer DVD, and i really don't think it's going to be a big issue going forward.

So few games (like 10 or 15 accross all consoles) this gen even use 2 layers, let alone max them out. I don't think I've ever seen a game over 5 or 6gb. Theres a few games on multiple discs (Star Ocean 3), but those were single layer.

star ocean is a seperate case, anyway. the NA release (and maybe the EU) were 2 disks because they included a special bonus disk or expansion that was packaged seperatly in JPN. at least from what i heard.

The second Star Ocean disc certainly wasn't just a 'bonus disc', for the EU release at least. They did however add some extra content from the original japanese release (which apparently was really buggy), and they released that version in japan later too.

This happens to every Nintendo thread, some one comes in and just completely throw the thread into total disruption.

If those leaked specs are real, I see no reason why the console couldn't be that small with over heating. Someone on gaming-age mentioned the fact that, Nintendo doesn't build their consoles with the power supply on the board, which we all know generates alot of heat.

Just looking at the inside of the GC should give us an idea of type of manufacturing process Nintendo will use to ventilate the Revolution. I don't think there's any wires in the GC, except for the ribbon used to connect the disc drive to motherboard.

To be exact 3 DVD cases is 1.5 inches.

BTW this little announcement seems to back up the idea that Revolution will be shown at E3, at worst in picture form.. I recently heard a whisper about a press only Revolution photo shooting that took place recently.

Oh so I guess 6 years ago when gamers didn't really need more than 700 MBs of gaming space moving to a DVD format was not needed either huh?

PS1 had games coming on 3 and 4 cd's. No this gen game has has multiple DVD's to my knowledge. If you can't even FILL it yet, what's the point?

I'm yet to see you make one single point that's valid.

Final fantasy XI there may be more I just don't care to search. Multiple layer DVDs there were a few like GT4, San Andreas and MGS 3 is double layered if I remember correctly.

What could BluRay be used for with next gen games and HD movies? I'm not much of a tech junkie but here are some that come to mind.

Storing massive amounts of information like richer textures?

Possible seemless worlds because of the 216mbps if PS3 supports a 6xBR drive?

Extra content for both gamesand movies

3 DVD cases is only 1.2"

I just put 3 DVD cases on top of each other (Donnie Darko and American Pie 1 and 2 :)) and they measured 1.6 inches.. Are DVD cases slimmer in the US then they are in the UK or something?..

Where have you been? This happens to every thread in there, Nintendo or otherwise. ;)
