The visual differences are due to the lack of that greeny/yellow hue that the game had when it was fist shown. Its now completely gone thus changing the look of the whole game.

I agree. A bit of shame, I might add, as I quite liked the original visual appearance with it's strong greeny/yellow hue. The now brownish/sepia hue makes it a bit more realistic, but also makes it easier to spot inaccuracies within the game IMO. All in all, it looks very good regardless and I'm very impressed by the amount of action going on.

Enemy AI is also as blind, deaf and stupid as always...

I'm not sure if you've played any of the previous Metal Gear games on the PS2, but the AI is quite dependant on the difficulty setting. Having played MGS2 and 3 on the more difficult and extreme settings, I can assure you that the AI isn't always as blind, deaf and stupid. In fact, quite the opposite. I do agree though that they could be seen as "stupid", at least when you start to figure out the pattern of the enemy behaviour and how best to trick them. On the other hand, that's what I find most enjoyable about the MGS games - figuring out those patterns and start to explore the AI by playing with the enemy.

Having watched the HD trailer of the gameplay aspects of MGS4, I'm sure the AI isn't in one of the more difficult settings - I think this is quite evident considering that in most scenes, the AI demonstrated is even less aware than what was found in the more difficult settings in MGS2. On the other hand, given that this was a video to demonstrate some of the (new) gameplay mechanics and features, it would make sense to show on an easier setting. I don't think the focus was to demonstrate the AI, but rather the scope of the battlefield and some of the challenges the player will be facing (multiple enemy parties, new gameplay elements, the amount of action etc).

Anyway, only time will tell, but given the all previous MGS games, I have high faith in team Kojima and I'm very impressed with the way it's shaping up. IMO by far the most impressive game.

i liked the hue as well, probably because im so used to it from the previous mgs games, which if i remember had a bluish hue in the earlier ones

...im still curious where snake is hiding that metal drum barrel

that circle thing is just the suit camouflage range.
Everything in that range, the suit can capture the colors and texture.

it was very visible in the gameplay what that circle did

Not quite, please look at 3:44 to 3:54 to see how the fluctuation actually moved WITH the soldier

same thing could be seen at 14:32 onwards toward the end of the demo

I thought that it may be just the camoflague thing at first too, but it isn't as simple as it seems

Furthermore, why the heck does that circle fluctuate anyway? it doesn't seem to be trying to accomodate for any landscape obstacles at all.

Plus, this actually makes more sense to me now once I've thought more into it. Remember ZOE? Kojima used a similar scheme. only this time all the information has been combined into one circle.

Visuals aside, Metal Gear looks to have evolved considerably from the previous incarnations of the series. The gameplay is very reminiscent of Splinter Cell now, which I felt was a better sneaking / action game and I agree with Kojima and Co. taking the series in this direction. The CQC ability to push your enemies to the ground was impressive, and I enjoyed the rolling can bashing your enemies out of the way. All in all, the game looks to have a nice balance between realism and humour for which the series is known.

What considerable evolution are you talking about? I don't see much difference in terms of stealth gameplay.
New suit is nice as it somewhat simplifies camouflage , CBQ changes are cosmetic, there is slightly more freedom while lying on the ground. Snake can crouch now.

Barrel rolling -at least in the demo- was particularly bad way of stealth attack with all that noise, hence the bad AI comments. I expect it to be useful when Snake is cornered and detected.

Only experience changing additions I see are Metal Gear Mk II and maybe crouching which enables shorter covers and better visibility.

Overall it still looks more like MGS than anything else which is not bad but I would like to see some significant innovation as stealth gameplay can be boring.

That said, I very welcome combat system changes and it actually looks better than many third person shooters I have seen.

Yeah, in the HD video at around 3:55 it is very obvious, while you are lying on the ground the little hill in the circle tracks the soldier very precisely. I can understand the confusion though as the circle seems to appear at the same time you activate octocam.

looks impressive (though not as much as the trailer from a year ago)
very good use of detail textures on the edges of architecture! there isn't a huge veriety of textures in the scene, but they are well mapped.

that said, I am REALLY getting sick of desaturated and washed-out games. thats one reason why I prefer the old trailer.

There'll probably be more changes to the filter settings as time goes on, as he can configure it any way he pleases, and he's probably just testing different settings on the public at each showing. That said, I also think I remember that the game would take place in 5 rather different locations across the world?

Downloaded the full 720p version from PSN and watched it on my TV.

The good:
It is amazing!
It is amazing!!
It is amazing!!!

The bad:
Some of the animation transitions are a bit jarring. Like standing to crouching suffers from a bit of the "flash card" syndrome.

Picking up weapons and items by absorbing them through your feet is so last gen! Just a nice little pick up item animation would greatly add to the immersion.

Switching weapons. Again the "flash card" syndrome. But I guess this is case where its a game play vs realism trade off. Playing a MGS game where you only had 2 weapons at a time and didn't have a whole warehouse full of nicknacks just wouldn't be MGS.

I just watched the presentation video. It looks like a fun game, but in general the animation is pretty bad except for cutscenes. I can remember when people wee using the cut scene's as an example of next generation animation, despite the fact it's just straight motion capture. It seems pretty funny compared to the in game animations imo.

The new gameplay trailers looked great, aside for the brain dead AI that is. Although watching the vid I got the feeling that Kojima has taken a long hard look at splinter cell for inspiration.

I do hope that the PMC guys show a little better initiative in a firefight instead of marching single file at Snake.

I watched the direct-feed demo, if things like the collapsing building and the arriving tank are not all scripted and the battlefield is changing realtime as in RTS, then color me super-impressed!

Come on, how could you believe that its changing realtime? Its so obviously scripted.
