New Mark Rein interview

Getting in ahead of PS3 I think makes more sense.

:???: Isn't that what I said? ok for clarification: I agree gow should be launched well in advance of ps3 to ensure mindshare of not only gow, but 360's ability to compete (graphically) with ps3.

Well it's gonna be just like the 360 launch anyways, 10% will get the console, the other 90% will have to wait until spring.

You won't really be able to buy a PS3 this holiday anyways.

I actually start to wonder whether this GoW scheduling affects Halo 3. I mean, basically it looks like Microsoft commissioned Gears of War to stand in for Halo 3 in terms of interfering with the PS3's launch - I can't imagine that Halo 3 and GoW would be launched around the same time, really, that seems pointless. So that basically means that Halo 3 is for the Spring?

Finally ! Something worthy of nextgen :)
MS should be readying HD-DVD player around that time too. When is it launching ?

No this sametime next Christmas. October or November time 2007 to compete with MGS4, GTA4, and possibly FFXIII.

Cot damn that would be the biggest year in videogame history. Even beating 2004.

I've only ever heard "2007" for H3, where'd you see different?

No you don't understand. I really don't know what month Halo 1 and Halo 2 (which I think came out in November) came out. Do you?

1998 is the biggest year gaming has ever seen, not 2004.

I think FFXIII may very well hit in 2007, but if it does, it will be Japan only.

1998? What came out then? Bigger than Halo 2, GTA:SA, and MGS3?

I think you missed some of the best games of 2004! Obviously you don't get off a console much ;) Right off the top you have World of Warcraft amd Half-Life 2, and after those there were a slew of really, really good games like Far Cry, Chronicles of Riddick, Unreal Tournament 2004, Painkiller, Doom 3, Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War, Rome Total War, The Sims 2, Pirates!. On the console side there was also Metroid Prime Echos, Ninja Gaiden, Ratchet & Clank: Up your Arsenal, Katamari Damacy, Fable, etc plus all the Madden, Burnout, Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six, etc franchises that continued to carry the torch. That is a lot of games to add to your list. My vote is definately 2004 for the best all around year for software across the industry.

Thanks for proving my point and agreeing. So do you think 2007 can top 2004?

Not necessarily. There are mild indications of a motion to make PS3 games more international from the beginning. Instead of releasing to the US with the English version, and waiting months to localise to the EU, games already with international localisation get released in all territories. It could be that PS3 games get distributed to the major territories within a few weeks of each other, rather than continue the old trends of monthly delays. That seems an intention of SCEWW anyhow.

Why does it need to compete with GTA4 when it's cross platform? And I think you're being VERRRRYYY optimistic to think FF13 will launch in 2007.
