Beginning today, Netflix members in the United States and Canada can stream content through their Wii™ consoles with Netflix installed on their Wii Menu. The Netflix disc that was used for instant streaming on the Wii console will no longer be required. Netflix members who have a plan starting at $8.99 a month ($7.99 in Canada), a Wii console and a broadband Internet connection can now instantly watch movies and TV shows streamed directly to their TVs by simply downloading Netflix from the Wii Shop Channel. This new channel is available at no extra cost. The new disc-free option installs Netflix on the Wii Menu, making it convenient for Wii owners to quickly access streaming movies and TV shows.
Sort of confirms the whole timed exclusive thing.
For number two, just turn off your notifications. That will eliminate all the pop ups.I was presently suprised when I popped in my netflix disc last night and was greated with a message saying my disc would stop functioning after 30 days because an app is now available.
However...
A couple of things about this app I don't particularly care for.
1. No [HD] logo is available to let me know the movie I am about to watch is in HD
2. It requires me to be logged into my PSN account to watch movies now (don't like seeing updates about who is online when I'm trying to watch a movie
3. Scrolling has now been changed so that your cursor is at the end of the screen and it scrolls that way. Used to scroll through the center.
What I do like about the app
1. No more 75 movie limit when browsing movies (used to only show 75 in each catagory, meaning not every movie available to be streamed was shown for you to watch)
2. Further Genre segmentation allowing me to choose not only the type of Genre (Action Adventure) but also the sub-genre (Martial Arts, Gritty, etc etc)
3. Search function is always available as sometimes it would seem my search function would dissapear.
4. Star readout showing more then just 1 star when it is 1.25 ect ect
Movies do play quicker but I wish it cached more, I hate using bandwith and waiting because I went to a different catagory and then came back having to wait for them to load again.
My concern is why do I "need" to be logged into PSN to use neflix? With the disc as long as I had an internet connection I could stream from netfilx but now it won't let me unless I'm logged in.
As for turning off notifications, besides the obvious that I would have to remember to turn them back on when I want them...I also don't like my PS3 presence known to all my friends and family at all times. If I'm watching a movie with my wife I don't want a popup saying someone left me a message asking me if I'm going to play..or worse yet, a text message or phone call asking me the same thing.
It was just nice to turn on my PS3, load up Netflix and watch a movie without my presence broadcasted to everyone...thats all.
I'm annoyed it won't work over RemotePlay
