so guess what. I JUST PLUGGED THE POWER CORD IN THE SOCKET. i didnt had the patience. everybody told me to buy a 110v stepdown converter.
I thought, well let me be the power tester . damn ,I'm still a bit nervous
I hope i will be an inspiration for lots of people, so they dont have to fork out lots of money for 500w convertor

btw, i first didnt plug it in the tv. just took the ps3 out of the box, and connect it to 220v .

i was thinking it was defect cause i didnt hear any sound , but the green light went on and i heard a beep.

anyway, hooked it up the TV and boots up flawlessly. you cant hear a thing from the box (for now, yet have to play a game)
YES japan ps3 DOES NOT NEED A STEPDOWN convertor from 110v-220v
anyway, i dont have component cables . otherwise i would have visited my brother now and hook it up to his 50inch HDTV plasma TV.
i'm forced to use the yellow plug (composite) trough 480i on my 32inch widescreen CRT...

Dude what are you waiting for you!? Get some component cables and take some pictures!

All you got was RR7? No resistance?

Congratulations! :D Happy you finally got one!
Actually look forward to impressions from your CRT-tv aswell, since that's the kind of tv I'll probably use for some time next year, until I can afford a LCD/Plasma...
Anyways, have a great time with the thing!

firmware updating. i just connected to my router and configured the network settings ..
download is slow as hell

You are just f* crazy... stepup not stepdown... congrats for your non smoking ps3.
BTW you are a lucky guy! Congrats for your PS3, and I'm waiting for the first glitches like X360 did 8)

Do you have a DVI input monitor without HDCP? I'd love to get confirmation on the issue of playing games on a non-HDCP monitor.

my monitor has dvi without hdcp. i think i'v already read somewhere it wont work...
but maybe i will buy a hdmi > dvi cable anyway to plug it in the tv of my bro. he doesnt have hmdi but only dvi+dhcp

btw, i YOUTUBED the powerconnection take away any doubts. dont you guys think i want every importers ps3 to be fried ..haha

No step down? You've got some balls my friend :)

Still Sony using a PSU that will work with any supply would be cheaper for them because they havent got to make a specific PSU for regions with differrent supplys. They just make one PSU that can handle all the different supply loads and then make/order them in bulk to save some $$ :)

yeah composite. component no worky on pal crt tv's . i'm going to hunt for RGB scart. at least.

Ah, that's awesome! :D So it works fine, even browsing and posting here on the forums. :)

Congrats man, I am SOOOO JEALOUS! I so much love to be there on day one. But I promised myself and my bankaccount to wait until the move is over and paid for, and I know what kind of money is left. I think I'm going to negotiate for a nice flatscreen and a PS3 in the new house, and then allow my girlfriend to decide everything else. :D

You should be killed.

Actually it's more Sony's fault for not putting at least a RGB cable of some sort. But the joke sounded better directed to you. Plus, you have a PS3 and i don't so you should die anyway.
