MS - Nintendo Union !!!

Paul,

Sony doesn't need nintendo. Sony is in first place. please explain why they would need nintendo when they are already killing the competition?

If you've never seen two companies placed second and third attempt to get togther to take down whomever is number 1, then I can understand why you think that.

If Nintendo really wants to partner with someone why partner with the company losing MILLIONS on their system? It doesn't make any sense, none at all.

To take down Sony? I don't even think Nintendo even cares about that. Why partner with MS to try and take down Sony when they could just partner with sony themselves? Do you really think Sony is going to turn them down? I don't think so.

Why does MS need Nintendo when they have enough money to buy everyone out? Hell, they already got Rare.

There is no evidence of a Nintendo MS joint effort. It doesn't even make sense.

The letter given to IGN is nothing but garbage, written by a fan who wants to see his stuff on the internet.

Erm, guys, the letter from the fan is only the first sentence. Everything after that (all the stuff on GN2, MS/Nintendo ect) was a response written by Matt Cassamasina from IGN.

Chap

All Matt said is that he has heard that MS are interested in some sort of union with Nintendo, not that Nintendo are interested. Honestly anyone who really thinks this is going to happen is crazy.

You guys are crazy. Even if this were to happen, it'd probably be for the better. Right now PS2 is absolutely slaughtering the competition to a point where it isn't even funny anymore....in fact, it's getting to be kind of scary. If MS and Nintendo do partner up (which I agree that it's very VERY improbable) then it'd only be good for us.

Better competition + less consoles to buy = Good for the consumers. But I'm sure you all know that already. Just remember to keep that in mind.

I think I said it earlier. They know full well how fierce competitior Microsoft can be. If Sony goes ahead together with Nintendo, Microsoft would simply become a non-factor. Completely marginalized in every market. Total market domination, and we all know every company in the world would love to have that.

If these rumors are true however (veeery much doubt it), they show a level of insecurity in Microsoft, that they can't go successfully into next generation alone.

Nintendo/MS won't do this until one of them is in serious trouble.

Right now, Xbox is doing better than GameCube everywhere except Japan and GameCube is profiting a lot more than Xbox.. so I doubt that MS and Nintendo would merge. Maybe if the PS3 turns out to be a bigger threat than anticipated.. though..

Chap, remember the quote you concurred on ... "healthy scepticism is a good thing"?

That still applies....there is no evidence for this, this is even less credible than the claim that Cell is not in the PS3, or that Cell is not on schedule.

Regardless of whether Nintendo is 2nd or 3rd (depending on who you talk to), Nintendo is, at worst, right behind Xbox in sales. They have the GBA, which is still selling like hotcakes. Last time I checked, they are turning a profit in both console and handheld sales. They have several billion dollars in liquid assets.

MS and Nintendo? Extremely unlikely.

Mmm Gamecube sits around 8000 - 14000 units/ week (or month?)
Xbox around 1000 - 4000 units/ week (month?)
And PS2 around 36.000 - 56.000 - 65.000 units/ week (month?)

Cube doesn't sells THAT good ;)

Evil_Cloud

Where did he say that GC was selling well compared to PS2 in Japan? He said GC was selling better then XBox in Japan, which you just backed up, so what's your point?

BTW FYI, AFAIR this year GC has been selling an average of 50,000 per month (12,500 per week) in Japan vs XBox's average sales of around 8,500 per month (2,125 per week).

IIRC MS and N were i talks a while back where MS offered to buy N for around $25 Billion. N was interested initially but then they decided not to sell because MS wanted to steer N into a different direction. ;)

I think it's possibe for MS and N to team up on a console standard.

I think MS would be much more accommodating to Nintendo then Sony, considering their relative standing in the market.

BTW, here are the newest Japanese sales numbers. This is the week from the 16th to the 22nd of June from Media Create:

1 PlayStation 2 - 46,900 (1,520,200)
2 Game Boy Advance - SP 39,600 (1,187,500)
3 GameCube - 20,900 (307,300)
4 Game Boy Advance - 9,600 (908,100)
5 Playstation - 900 (44,800)
6 Xbox - 750 (59,400)
7 Wonderswan Crystal - 450 (23,900)

GC sold almost 30 times better then XBox last week.

Here are the software sales incase anyone's interested:

1 GBA Nintendo MOTHER 1+2 160,300 160,300
2 PS2 Sega I will build a J.LEAGUE pro soccer club! 3 55,200 407,800
3 PS2 BANDAI ENTA THE matrix 45,900 45,900
4 GC Sega Sonique adventure de luxe 27,500 27,500
5 DC Pre IMOA THE King OBU Fighters 2002 22,500 22,500

10 GBA Pokemon Pocket-Monsters ruby 9,300 2,097,100

That whole quote from 'Opening the Xbox' sounded like some rumor (and a ridiculous one at that)

Not more ridiculous than the "MS wants to buy Sega to buy Square" rumor, though.

I'm happy that Takahashi guy apparently decided to shut up for a while.

You should read the book before making judgement.

Exactly.

Sony doesnt need N now. Coupled that with what happened between them before, you think some national pride would bring them together? In any deal of whatever possibility, Sony will be the leading party(based on their market share) in the talks, Kutaragi will probably pushing the terms, N will just have to play bitch and go yes yes yes!

So why not ally with someone who is on even terms, say....MS? Like Qroach said, MS has really strong Western support while N does the Japanese market. Match made in heaven to bring down the evil empire? :p

think it's possibe for MS and N to team up on a console standard
Yeppity yep!

...or you could view it in the manner of what happens to a lot of things that become MS "acquisitions". MS buys it, and "poof", never to hear from it again- 1 competitor eliminated in a box (just add water). The treasured goods delivered right into the hands of the "enemy".

It's funny you should only see Sony as the "evil empire", when in fact, all 3 parties here are "evil empires"- just in different developmental stages of a common lifecycle.

Kutaragi will probably pushing the terms, N will just have to play bitch and go yes yes yes!

Sorry to break it to you but do you really think MS would take Nintendo terms? I don't think so.

Don't get your hopes up on a MS + N thing, there is no evidence to support it, only deny it. It'll happen when hell freezes over maybe.
