Movie Reviews 2.0

Just saw The Expe/andables (yeah, I know). Amusing to see all these meatsacks (and Statham and Li), but ultimately rather boring. I'm actually thinking it would have been better if they'd managed to make a movie with only the old meatsacks in there. Apart from the amusing one scene with Arnie and Sylvester, there were some funny bits though, like how Li kept losing from Lundgren. But it's a missed opportunity that they didn't get someone else to direct and/or write it.

X-men: First Class 8.5

Xavier, Magneto and Shaw were casted amazingly well. The rest of the cast could have used some help. Really liked the story and pacing. Can't wait to buy it on BR later this year.

Got X-men tickets for tomorrow! Has to be atleast decent, when so many seems to like it, and might aswell go see some movies on my summer VACATION :)

Looks like I am taking the wife to the Xmen movie :)

Watched Senna last night and thought it was a solid 9/10 since I don't give perfect scores.

Yeah I liked the X-Men also. Best in the series and that's something, because I think X-Men 2 was also very good. Some of the sidekicks weren't so special, but all in all very well made and things were in the right place

4.25/5

Almost missed the start, due to playing Witcher 2 so late and that pushed everything further except the movie starting time :)

Loved X-Men but i still think that X-Men 2 is the best in the series.
Not sure what to think about putting the exact same scene at the beginning of the movie as in the very first X-Men, but i guess it fit with the fact that it continued from there...

Saw quite a few films during the last two weeks.

Transformers 3
Better than the second, not as good (ok) as the first imo. Saw it in 3D, I'd actually rather had seen it in 2D, but didn't have the timetable to do that today.

2.5/5

Black Swan

Thought it was really high quality, although I'm not too big of movies where too much is left to question whether things went this or that way... Still high quality stuff. Portman was excellent, and skinny :)

4/5

Unstoppable

I liked this, better what I expected it to be. New Kirk and Denzel were ok and the movie was about the right lenght for what was there.

3.5/5

Battle Los Angeles
Huge disappointment. A friend of mine said "it's not that bad", which prompted me to not only watch it, but made my brother and his wife watch it with me... Utter garbage. Nothing was good in this movie, some parts maybe mediocre at best.

1.5/5

Limitless
I think Bradley Cooper was pretty good in this and the subject is interesting. I thought there were quite a few things that didn't really made any sense, but they had to put those in to forcefully create some of the plot points, like that mafia guy. Minor spoiler next. It didn't make any sense for Bradley to loan money from him, let alone him forgetting to pay it back in time...Some other things were pretty goofy too, but enjoyable anyway.

3.75/5

Robin Hood (2010)

Russel Crowe is always good :)
I didn't know this movie was so different to the other Robin Hood stuff out there and was pleasantly surprised. Really enjoyed this one.

4.25/5

Splice

Also better than what I expected. Nothing major to complain here.

3.5/5

edit: Forgot

The American

Clooney was great and I liked the athmosphere in this movie.

Doesn't surprise me much.

Cars is far, far and away the worst film Pixar have made and I was staggered that they have decided to make a sequel!

Somebody at Pixar obviously must have a bee in their bonnet about talking cars, or something...

You clearly do not have kids. The merchandising potential of Cars is enormous. Not making a sequel would have been quite startling.

Meh. My girlfriend acts like a big kid, is a huge Disney fan and loves Pixar stuff, but even she thinks that Cars was poor. :p

Perhaps I've got higher expectations because it is Pixar, but it's disappointing if they made a sequel simply for the merch.

The Cars franchise has already made 10 billion dollars alltogether. Yes you read that right, ten freakin' billion.

So they made a sequel and a direct to video spinoff called Planes. It's a complete abandonement of their old philosophy of not making anything like this, and you also can't say that their own movies aren't making enough of a profit so they have to do this to finance them.

Also, head of Pixar John Lasseter is the car fan, then again I don't know how much he had to do with the story in this one. And of course Steve Jobs is the biggest owner (Pixar belongs to Disney now but they pretty much have total control over the entire animation empire).

John Lasseter and Ed Catmull are the two most important guys in Disney, at least in the anim department (even Marvel belongs to Disney now, just FYI)

I know, but none of us are surprised when successful imaginative companies are bought by big conglomerates and ruin what made the original companies great (and worth buying in the first place).

It's just not Disney's style to let the creatives have their heads. Top management always think they know better than the people with a proven track record, and Cars 2 is seeming to be not up to their usual high standard. Even Cars is pretty weak when compared to their other movies. It's okay, but it's not genius on the level of Finding Nemo, Toy Story 1/2/3, Monsters Inc, or The Incredibles.

Nah, it's certainly better than bug's life.

Not on this planet, it isn't.

I rather enjoyed A Bug's Life. Could barely keep my eyes open during Cars, on the other hand.

If I wanted to see talking cars, I'd watch Knight Rider (the awful original, not the terrible new one). :p

I think Ratatouille is probably the second worst Pixar film after Cars but that is still a long way back. All, IMO, of course. ;)
