Movie Reviews 2.0

The new Scream was kind of terrible, but now I hear a sixth movie has been scheduled to go into production this summer. When will it end?

Uncharted movie is getting panned. One review said they must think gamers have low expectations, just want action sequences, no character development.

Wasn't expecting much from it, to be fair, as soon. as I saw that they were giving away free tickets with the U4 PS5 upgrade...

Wahlberg was originally cast to play Nathan. But it's been in development so long that they decided to cast the younger Holland.

I don't know if he was quite the star he is now though.

I watched "The King's Man" last night. Thought it was a load of shit and I've no idea how it has such a high rating on IMDB. I was expecting something similar to the previous couple of movies but the humour was lacking, the plot was overly-involved and it was too long. A terrible waste of some good actors - the kid playing Fiennes' son aside as they could have substituted him for a plank of wood without any detriment to the experience. Oh, Gemma Arterton still can't act, either. Not good.

Watched it over my wife's shoulder so it wasn't that gripping. The lead character seemed WAAAY over intense, the side characters were pretty forgettable and they had a lot of fun butchering history a bit.

One thing I'll note, it has an AWESOME soundtrack. (I'm a classics fan)

Perhaps they intended the first one to be imperfect like the first game so they could improve massively with the SQL, but then overshot the mark on the imperfection part …

I understand they went with spider dude partly because he really wanted to although for me he looks more like the young Nathan in Uncharted 4 than Nathan Filion, I mean, Nathan Drake.

But oh well.

Drake's arc over the four Uncharted games was developing from murdering treasure hunters to murdering mercenaries to murdering different treasure hunters to murdering both treasure hunters and mercenaries!.

Real character growth!

Then I guess the movie does accurately portray the character's growth. :D

The guy was such an obvious miscast, I wonder if it was some sort of tax dodge, like the uwe boll films. Apparently cost $120 million to make

Tom Holland was casted as Nathan Drake because of a Sony Pictures executive. Possibly the executive attributed the Spider-Man success to Holland instead of properly attributing it to a solid story and direction assisted by Marvel Studios.

https://www.ign.com/articles/2017/0...uncharteds-nathan-drake-is-an-inspired-choice

Holland reportedly got the Nathan Drake gig because Sony Pictures chief Tom Rothman was so impressed by Holland’s performances in a recent cut of Homecoming, which is certainly a great vote of confidence. But if Holland ever wants to be known for more than just playing a superhero, this is the right sort of move to make while his star is bright.

Earlier articles indicated Mark Wahlberg was initially cast as Nathan Drake, but then lots of time passed and Spider-Man because relevant because of the MCU tie-ins.

Wahlberg has confirmed that he will play the adventurer Nathan Drake in Uncharted, which will mark his fourth collaboration with Russell - a filmmaker known for being difficult to work with (and, as Christopher Nolan learned, a man willing to put you in a headlock in order to get what he wants).

I ahvent seen spiderman, maybe he suited that role, but the guy doesnt look anything like nathan drake plus hes apparently 1.69m tall (25 years old so hes not growing), Mark Wahlberg also doesnt look anything like him.
Hopefully whoever made the casting choice loses their bonus, though if they are high up then I expect not

I didnt realize this was announced so long ago, so I looked back in 2017, seems a lot of ppl were not happy with the choice back then, surely that should of told them something

Tom Holland is strangely popular with many people even though he can't act. No matter in which role. Even in his Spiderman role in which he is in the Uncharted movie as well.

700 to 1000 enemies per game. The focus for the players was too much on fighting. In my opinion, Shadow Of The Tomb Raider is is close to the ideal in terms of puzzles vs- exploring vs. combat. They just should have removed that indigenous people village and add more fights against animals and animal bosses.

Seemed to have done quite well, $139,000,000 worldwide so far
And this is probably a big part of the reason Sony cast Tom Holland as Nate. His appeal, despite the movie being panned critically.

Ah well, as least we're back to the status quo of movie-adaption of games being mostly awful.

We will never know if he made any difference with the box office, I suspect not. His 2 previous films to the last spiderman one were
Cherry (2021) 21000 ratings on IMDB , the directors previous film was 'avengers endgame'
& chaos walking (2021) 41,000 ratings So I argue having his name in the acting credits doesnt mean its gonna do gangbusters

Planet money podcast had a recent episode about the first spiderman film and casting an 'unknown' into the role, they were looking at stars first dicaprio, jude law, john cusack etc but went with the relative unknown toby macguire cause they realized it was the IP/story that the ppl paid money for and not the actor, same with the lord of the rings films, most were not known before those films, the casting wasnt important it was the IP that was worth the money in these sort of films, you stick another actor it prolly would of done similar $

Watched Uncharted at the cinema today. The chemistry between Nate and Sully didn't really work in the beginning, but it got better. And the final action sequence is batshit crazy!

I think Uncharted was good enough. Holland actually did a great job there. No issues whatsoever with his acting and the he does really well with action scenes. The action scenes in general and combat was really well done. It's not a perfect movie for sure, but as a simple fun video game movie it was more than good enough. Yeah Mark Wahlberg doesn't look like Sully from the games, but so what. There was enough references to the games to make it feel like Uncharted imo. I'd gladly see a sequel.

Are you sure you aren't confusing him with Lara Croft?
