Motorstorm screens

Uhm... Ooookay...?
What does that "in some for or another" mean? It's clear that Motorstorm looks amazing, but the CGI was just on another level. Sure everything's there "in some form or another", but hardly a "told you so victory" for PS3.

The CGI looked unbelievable, the game looks like a very pretty game, just nothing like the CGI. Sure there are canyons. The vehicles look the same. The physics are great. But for one, smoke and particles are nothing like the CGI, and that was the best bit of the CGI!

i figure the CGI was the basis for the textures and modelling scaled down to the point their engine could cope with. if a sequel takes place in the same place they can re sample the cg to get better textures. eventually there should be a nice body of cg environments they can use in various reality based games. sort of like filming on location. still keep modellers around for what ever would be sets. or they can uses scale models like lair did. film production and game production are becoming the same. the tech is the cameras. the art what you see on through that camera. the better the job is done now the cheaper in the long run. since things don't need to be created over and over again that stay similar enough.

I have to agree. But I think the surface deformation is an even bigger difference. The deformation in the CGI trailer was phenomenal. It changed density, geometry and such for real, and bits of mud flew away from it.

Now its just lines using some kind of parallax mapping? Also only the back tires leave marks. And despite how and on which angle the wheels slide the lines are the same.

Might be because you've only seen the "dry" courses in the videos. Some tracks are a lot muddier and are more like the CGI trailer that way. ;)

Both IGN and Kikizo (I think the only ones that have previewed the Jap retail version so far) have been very very positive about the final (or at least almost 100% final I guess) build.. cant wait to see it in action let alone play it myself.:p

I am looking forward to hearing your first hand impressions then ;)

Flec I suggest reading few pages back, take a look at a pic of that CGI video from those days, and think again if the review is really "right" about the visuals meeting that, or even "pretty much there"
yeah, thanks.

For me though it's about more than graphics. I've watched several of those trailers already but every time I come back to some of those spectacular crashes I laugh my head off. I'm not a racing fan but this game will be at the top of the list.

well I finally got the chance to play this in a Demo kiosk (1st time with the PS3 ever).

Overall I was very impressed. The lighting is some of the best I've yet seen and the surroundings and the track were well designed and looked like it would be a blast to play online. I love watching the amazing crashes but can see how I'd learn to skip them quickly after a few days. Nicely implemented motion blur made everything look creamy smooth although cars look a little jaggie when not in motion (which is almost never) ;)

Although this game just SCREAMS for rumble. In fact I think the comments about "floaty" may have come from the fact that as you are navigating the vehicle, rumble feedback would have let you feel those ruts in the road and the bumps etc to know that you were being bounced into the air.

yea, I know a sore subject but I am a fan of it and see how it would have been a nice feature for a game such as this. I think playing with a rumble/force feedback wheel would be Nirvana.

I played on a very nice Sony 720p display and since I have been experiencing Next Gen HiDef gaming for over a year now, I'd say that visually the game is more or less exactly what I now expect from all Next Gen games. The music was cheesy IMO and it would be nice if they let you play your own music in game.

this game should be a BLAST to play online. The controller BTW, felt fine, not too light and the sticks felt good. Still do not like the small size of the DS and the "trigger" buttons seem a bit lacking. I'd prefer a concave trigger and less of a button feel.

I don't care anything for rumble, but I can see this game could have used it really well to give feedback on the 'road' surface, if nicely implemented. Does anyone know if Motorstorm supports FF steering wheels like the Logitech? That'd be pretty awesome!

...which reminds me. I completed 2 races using motion control yesterday (while out looking for a PS3).

It works better than I thought, especially driving trucks, although it takes some getting used to. I still prefer thumb sticks for now. I'll try motion control again after I beat the game.

I am looking forward to this game very much! Everything about it (to me at least) just screams proper next gen :)

I'll be playing this game with rumble :)

An M&K MX350 THX subwoofer should do the trick ;)

Completely and utterly my thoughts on the matter - who needs piddly finger massge when you can get the whole house to shake

The downloadable demo from the Playstation Store has a rock-solid framerate, it's pretty much the thing I've played on my PS3 the most (although I have Resistance and finished it on medium), it's so easy to get into a race and just have fun, and it's probably the first time where I can crash and be losing in a race and still laugh myself silly because the crashes and the gag system is just so entertaining. Especially when I'm boosting it feels like I'm on the edge because the track can be quite treacherous for the kind of speed my bike was going at, there's excitement in every bump, every jump. And the game is just gorgeous, but it's more fun than it's gorgeous.

I don't know why but for both the Motorstorm demo and Resistance, I did not miss rumble at all, I kind of miss it when I played Genji 2 but maybe it's because it was so sucky.

Really, kikizo?

That e3 trailer, like Killzone, is what we can look forward too NEXT generation maybe..

Don't be so sure about that. Look at the PS2 tech demos and the later games on PS2. I am confident, Xbox360 and PS3 will easily outdo Killzone and Motorstorm CGI videos later on theyr live.

EDIT: You can quote me on that one in the end of Xbox360 and PS3 life cycle. ;)

there is a big difference between ps2 tech demos and ps3 tech demos. First PS2 tech demos were running real time on dev kits. Motorstorm and killzone were complete CG movies, nothing to do with real time thing running on any dev kit.

I'll quote you on it.

You can quote me on this :D: The lighting/shadowing/motion blur/volumetric smoke, will never be exactly like the trailer. You will not get SH/G.I in real-time this generation, which is what (S.H) the killzone trailer is presumably using. Pre-baked S.H would not be good for a game in a wide open battle field with lots of dynamic props, nor would any reasonably cheap pre-baked G.I achieve that effect (unless killzone devs have Industrial Light & Magic render farms).

Based on the responses so far, I'd say most people don't care since MotorStorm delivers the hectic and fun gaming experiences... plus online.

Like "Special Features" in DVDs, they should include the original E3 trailer on the final MotorStorm disc too. It's something to show off their PS3.

EDIT: BTW, new media here: http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/748/748488/imgs_1.html
