Microsoft E3 Conference 2011

Kinect specifically in a targeted marketing campaign. E3 itself?

The day Kinect was announced at E3 I saw it on one of the local news channels during their technology segment. It was also mentioned on the national news networks. It followed in just about every major newspaper, and was also covered by all of the major US news networks. Then they did the big tour and brought it on all of the daytime shows etc. The Nintendo Wii received the same attention when it was announced. E3 is the one time of year that these companies are being watched carefully by the mainstream media.

I dont know, i feel like they would have hit those media channels just as well if they were showed at a seperate dedicated event, didnt have to be e3. In both cases they showed that stuff at e3 because thats what they had that they could show IMO. If they had more core stuff they would have showed it. The reason they cant is because they are pushing kinect game development more. Without the kinect stuff th MS conf would have been even worse.

News to me. I stand corrected if they have started giving out E3 news. Seems a waste. Getting attention for the Wii and Kinect almost seems like something you should schedule the Today Show or those morning talk shows for , not E3 time.

This show while boring is interesting for me in that that it sets the stones of Ms strategies for their upcoming system.
To me it looks like MS cleverly transcend the casual/hardcore dichotomy, it looks like they understood that this distinction is not a sane characterization of people behaviors. It's not a good base to use to support the strategy of such a big company as MS.
It's about services, MS seems to be the only so far to having realizing it and executing accordingly.
The bing announcement as well as the upcoming deals with tv provider is a huge thing, a huge huge thing. The only thing is that is not that much relevant for the 360 whereas it's everything for their next system. Ms is going for something that by far surpasses the casual/hardcore cleavage. I wonder how much they will invest I start to believe that US living rooms are actually at their range.

Here's one of the things that wasn't in the briefing:
Cloud Storage for Game Saves and LIVE Profile. Here at Xbox LIVE we listen to your feedback. We are making it easier for you to sign into your Xbox LIVE account from any console at any time to access your game saves and full profile, including items such as Microsoft Points to make purchases, Achievements and friends. Cloud storage will allow you to enjoy the same great Xbox LIVE gaming experience even when you're not in your own living room by giving you the option to store your "game saves" securely in the Xbox LIVE cloud instead of on a portable memory unit or your console's hard drive. Gone are the days of "gamertag recovery." Now all you need to do is sign in, no matter where you are!

This alone is more exciting to me than all the other announcements at the briefing combined.

What the hell man. They could have cut down some of the demos and make news for important stuff! Very nice.

I missed bits of the conf due to a conf call but are there videos of the new dashboard yet? Does the Bing stuff also parse your local content? If I say "rez hd" will it look locally also instead of just taking me to marketplace?

The Kinect voice with full content search makes the voice piece a lot more powerful.

I mentioned this before but if I could get rid of my DVR and use my 360 as an all-in-one entertainment hub, I'd be up for it.

They showed some xbla stuff in the gt pre show im pretty sure we will get more news.
I'm kinda angry im was promised a Alan wake xbla by the rumors.

Only just tuned in during Star Wars. But I don't know - perhaps it is enough to just post these things in various games threads? Glad to see SSX return - there was some Wii footage beforehand that had me worried, but this looks much better.

But yeah, I think we agreed last year that the publishers didn't really need their own thread here.

Yeah, well, the next big thing we all expect is BF3, I guess, and that has its own thread.

Battlefield 3 is actually beyond awesome. That tank mission was utterly unbelievable.

I don't know what you guys expect. Hardcore gamers already know what to expect from ms , we got new titles in almost all of MS's major franchises. So they choose to focus on the casual gamers which is where they can still expand the market. I don't see hardcore gamers being important almost 6 years after launch , they have all most likely bought the xbox 360 and the xbox 360 s already.

I think its quite obvious that 2011/12 have a ton of hardcore stuff coming out but we are at the transition spot for ms where their first parties are most likely going to the xbox next as they finish up xbox 360 titles.

I bet e3 2012 will be big for the next xbox but ms is still going to set the xbox 360 for the casuals. Its what sony did while ramping up for ps3
