Microsoft E3 Conference 2011

Well then make it do geometry! :devilish: Take however many angles of the face it takes. >_> This voice control stuff is just useless.

Has anyone got that working in the PC space with Kinect? I'm surprised I haven't heard of object scanning. But Laa-Yosh will tell you that you can't just scan objects and have them in games. Although looking at something like EA's character customisation, it should be possible to measure displacements from a scanned face and adjust a base model to get a likeness.

Given that we were shown a demo of capturing people's faces to make better avatars, I'm surprised Bioware didn't (or wasn't able to) show off something similar to create a more accurate you-as-Shepard.

Creating just the head model is complex already, making sure it animates relatively well is even harder. Especially now that most NPCs in ME3 seem to be made without their generic face creation tool. Custom Shepards will look totally silly.

Totally agree. But the problem is that the so called 'hard core' still give it flack even with that known & without having even tried it themselves. One good thing though is Kinect won't die without them. The regular folks will continue

Dont really think its fair to generalise like that. I think even some of those that are fans of Kinect may be a bit deflated about the content shown for it coming out of this conference.

Let's see the hardcore games (exclusives):

Gears 3
Ryse
Forza 4
Fable 4
Halo 4

That's plenty of stuff, and there's certainly going to be a lot more material from all these games until the end of the week.

Ryse is the only new IP on Xbox 360, and it's a Kinect title.
I think people expect a new AAA IP from Microsoft or third party exclusives.
On the PS3 this generation we had Uncharted, Resistance, Little Big Planet, Motorstorm, Heavy Rain, Lair, Heavenly Sword,Infamous,Demon's Souls and the Last Guardian.
On Xbox360 we had Gears of War, Kameo, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey,Crackdown and Banjo-Kazooie,Alan Wake and Too Human. The best of Xbox360 lineup in the last years has been Halo 3, Halo: OSDT, Halo Reach, Halo 4,Gears 1,2,3 and Forza 2,3,4.. Fable 2,3.. that's sad.

Halo 4 with MC seems a stretch too me. I'm not saying they should have abandoned the franchise but something new set in the same world would have been much better.

Well, what about new AAA IP for Sony then? MS has more than enough, not to mention that youáve probably left out a lot of titles but I won't bother to go through it.

You see, obvious bias is obvious.

No, i didn't. I looked on the owned franchise on both MS and Sony wikipedia page. And i looked just at new IPs (new, i mean launched in the current generation).

Uncharted and Little Big Planet are pretty big new IP, both for critics and public.
Out of that lists, for Microsoft, you can say that just of Gears of War.

Bias? I don't own a ps3. Actually, i owned a 360!

PS: the lists were just on new IPs by the way.

That's just it. I don't think they DO know. When E3 demos are using the controller, movements are so subtle nobody notices the lag between the players' inputs and the response on the screen. Kinect's movements are so obvious that it clearly shows the delay.

The E3 demos are probably the only time some gamers see Kinect (because they are forced to) and this is what the experience seems to be? I'd write it off too. And don't get me started on the "acting" during these segments. They should know by now what works in an on stage demo and what doesn't and put their best foot forward.

One thing we should all thank MS for, though, is for ditching the charts and graphs since it seems to have forced Sony to follow suit. Let's see if Nintendo got the memo...

I don't really care. List wars don't interest me. All that matters is that there's games that I want to play on the platforms that I own. There are plenty of those to keep me quite busy through the rest of the year and the only one of them that is a Sony exclusive is Uncharted 3.

maybe if you spent less time looking at lists.

I was quite interested in what what on offer. I think they had a good balance this year between Live, Kinect and their regular core gamers. The big thing for me isn't what new services are offered to the U.S. but what old and new services make it out to Europe and Asia.

Its interesting how he predicted Xbox 360 would be number 1 worldwide. Is the vector for that content or price cuts or both?

I was hoping for the Zune music pass to be rolled into Gold especially with the number of cloud music announcements in the past few weeks. Maybe it will come with the TV package...

That Kinect avatar thing didn't work very well when I tried it.

I tried it twice. The first time it was close. The 2nd time, not so much. However, it was quite accurate on my gf both times.

The thing that really surprised me was that it picked up the prints on our shits and put them on our avatar. Cool and creepy at the same time. Ultimately, I think this is the future of avatars. Not only will be the toon version of you but you can update your avatar whenever you want based on what you're wearing and it'll be represented in the games you play. That's pretty cool.

The new interface stuff seems really cool. The bing search is nice and the new lay out seems to mimick windows 8 alot.

I like the updates , i think i'm just cooling on console gaming

Having looked at the conferences now and its pretty interesting for me. None of the hardware excites me and only a couple games interest me on either system. I'm definitely more interested in media options and I'm awaiting a game or ten to enthrall me. Might explain why Uncharted 3 didn't move me in the least as I enjoyed 1 more than 2 and inFamous 2 for whatever reason just hasn't resonated with me and those two titles were easily my favorite PS3 titles. I still get a little excited when I hear a Halo piece but I'm not sure I'm interested enough to grab 4, the last COD I played was Modern Warfare, Assassins Creed Brotherhood is still shrink-wrapped and I did "Release Day Delivery", Donkey Kong Country Returns was ok...I suppose, New Super Bros Wii definitely let me know I'm tired of playing THAT particular SMB.

I know I'm picking up Gears 3 so I can finish the trilogy and Forza 4 but I'm more interested in Lara (please be great!) than both of those.

I really love all the Assassins Creed games. Brotherhood was easily my favourite. Heck, I even played some multiplayer, which is not something I usually do.
