Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain & Ground Zeroes

Btw, the prosthetic hand of Big boss in the afghanistan gameplay, and big biss saying he lost his leg, arm: is that exlpained in Peace Walker? Or is that new stuff in MGSV?

Big Boss didnt lose any body parts in PW. Its something that will happen in V. The question is, will it happen in PP or in GZ?

There's a crapload of games that can be completed in 90 minutes. Some of which have been critically acclaimed like Journey or Flower.
My only slight issue with this MGS is that they're releasing what essentially is a demo for a relatively high price. You're not completing a fame for 30/40 dollars. You're completing the first level for 30/40 dollars.
Massive difference between that and a game that can be completed in 90 minutes - at least the full game gives you a full experience.
I am pretty sure GZ is targeted for a niche market.
Probably sold for its sentimental value in addition to whatever else might be in there uniquely to do fan service. Its probably sold in a similar fashion as a collectors item. It does have some fan service elements that fans will love (MGS1 and Snatcher inspired missions. The MGS1 mission is something that many fans appreciate. Snatcher players will see something unique in the XB1 version too). MGS4's fan service was done in the shadow mosses chapter. Old MGS fans saw huuuge value in that chapter and was one of the most memorable moments ever. Its something the player who never touched MGS1 during the 32 bit era will never ever understand.
I doubt its just a demo even though short. To the non MGS fan it may be a rip off because he cant identify with those that recognize MGS's unique identity. But for some fans it may have value beyond the length of the game. And that will rely on the content.

I don't really care that much as I never pay full price for a game anyway.
But I find it a bit sad and disgusting that Kojima is so conceited, self-loving that he clearly believes that a 1-hour, first level demo for his new game has more value and can be sold at double the price as games like Journey when it was released. And then sell the 'real' game at full price a few months later!
It's worse than dividing the last Harry Potter or Hunger Games books into two separate movies.
Greed at its best.
People will buy it and no one will care, but the principle remains. Very sad.
All my very own personal opinion of course.

Your reply is as if you havent even read my reply.

Maybe, just maybe, it's too soon to express a judgment on GZ, especially without hands-on experience.

Well cant remember myself ever paying for a 90 minute game. I probably bought some during the 32 bit days but cant remember which now. Probably Omega Boost? Anyways I am not sure if GZ is worth the money. But there always can be outliers. This might be or might not be one. 90 minutes is the main mission. But it wasnt defined how much extra content might be there. Some MGS games were short. MGS1 was also fairly short. But it had so much content, so much experimentation, it had so much variety that it felt like a much richer experience than a 20+ hour game. There are many large games that you get bored to finish them once. They are dragging and dragging with fillers just to hide the lack variety and increase the length. MGS games were gems that during the days that I had more time to game, I finished multiple times and loved every single second spent. So few games manage to get so much replayability.

I am not saying any game that last 90 minutes can't be worth $40 dollars. But its a MGS game which usually provides an experience that can hardly be encapsulated in a 90 minute window. And while I have a strong love hate relationship with the franchise, I consider MGS my favorite franchise of all time.

You know the plot is going to be highly complex with a ton of characters with their own stories. And more than likely GZ (the term usually refers to the point of detonation of a nuclear explosion) is going to be an explosive segway into a greater story. Im not going to pay $40 for a short game that at its best would provide an experience analogous to "blue balls". I am not a masochist. LOL.

Until it's been reviewed or played the question of its worth to an individual is without value. People can hate on the idea as much as they want, it's a free planet after all. But I'd be quite happy to pay the money and spend as much or as little time playing as I want. Glass half full and all that.

I suspect the fears about length are pretty meaningless. The game has always been presented as a stealth action sand box so the fact that you can complete the mission in 2 hours doesn't mean much. You can beat Skyrim in very little time if you decide to ignore most of the game. What's important is how much other mischief you can get into while playing Ground Zeroes. Based on Kojima's track record, I would imagine it will be quite a lot.

Then I am guessing it will happen in Ground Zeroes. It will end bloody, Big Boss will get hurt, go into coma, Phantom Pan will start with Big Boss waking up nine years later in the hospital. it will start with the demo Kojima showed for PP, Snake watching bikini babes on hospital floor while trying to get back to life and escape death and fight ghosts at the same time :p !
Oh Boy ! Can't wait for Phantom pain already  !

EDIT: BTW, with Sutherland voicing Snake now, it gets very confusing as I cannot tell when its Snake's voice int he trailer and when its someone else :( ! David had a very unique tone for Snake, you could tell its Snake with just the audio.

Hayter get worse and worse with his voice delivery as time went on. He was really meh in Peace Walker, with some of the most cringeworthy lines I ever expereinced in modern gaming.

I am fully supporting switch to Southerland.

Truth be told his voice did lose its touch. In MGS1 he was simply perfect. His voice sounded so natural. In the latest games he was struggling to replicate Snake's voice.

Please no spoilers in here... I actually haven't played any of the MGS games on the PSP. :(

And yeah, I think I'll miss Hayter too. I like Sutherland as an actor, but I think I'll have to get used to the new voice...

You can skip Portable Ops, but you have to check out Peace Walker. It is a 100% full MGS game. I can see why Kojima wanted to name it MGS5 [Konami did not let him].

I'm not sure, but I think I downloaded a version once for my PSP and was kind of disgusted of playing a mutilated MGS on that tiny small screen with awkward controls. I quit playing it pretty much within the first 5 minutes. I think that was Portable Ops, but I'm not really sure now. I think you were Snake and on a beach in the beginning?

I guess I should really give Peace Walker a try (another if it was that) though...
