Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain & Ground Zeroes

We are 2 months away form release of Ground Zeroes! Today, Kojima reccomended to Japanese gamers to play the game on PS4 if they can [better graphical fidelity].

I cant wait to get it! 1080p60 for the victory

Is it confirmed 1080/60fps? If yes, My interest had piqued. OTOH, i don't see the point in buying a prologue. It will leave me unsatisfied simply because of its length and will spoil my first experience of MGSV later.

^ yes, kojima confirmed it several times.

And this wont spoil MGSV experience, because both games are named MGSV. They are just two chapters, one shorter and linear, other 200x larger in a open world environments.

Xbox One won't be available in Japan when GZ is released so it's going to be quire easy to go for the PS4 version.

I meant it will spoil my first Wow feeling. When I actually get MGSV later, the full one, it will feel like "been there, done that". The first experience of a world carries me quite far into a game. Don't want to lose that excitement on this small demo.

Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes "looks slightly better on the PS4 compared to the Xbox One", according to Game Informer - a feeling reportedly shared by director Hideo Kojima.

Discussing the game's visuals following a hands-on playtest in its latest issue, Game Informer states that "Kojima Productions’ hard work under the hood pays off in the graphics department," noting Fox Engine's impressive lighting and the sight of "watchtowers [crumbling] to hundreds of pieces with an RPG shot".

However, it later adds that "Kojima notes that MGS V looks slightly better on the PS4 compared to the Xbox One, something we also noted before he mentioned it."

I didn't know we had destruction in this game.

....and another one showing differences even with the cloud power on X1.

Especially if the first part is like the tanker and the second part ends being some sort of ginormous version of Bigshell.

That said, I'm kinda tired of open word games and open word game jankiness. Metal Gear is supposed to be tight. It was always tight. And in terms of gameplay, it was never about breadth. It was always about depth. MGS4 was more or less a corridor. But it was a corridor I could play in in hundreds of different ways. Most open world games on the other hand just waste tons of real estate so you can do the shame shit over and over in lots of different places.

I've read this cover story of GI magazine, screens are amazing. GI was very satisfied with everything they saw, except that they played through GZ main story in only 2 hours (it's not clear if they had access to entire main campaign).

TPP looks magnificent.

Its just the first mission, a prologue. Its bound to be short. They have thrown in various side missions in the same level to spend time in. The main mission, is just ONE. I don't see why ppl want to buy this.if it was for $10 or$15, maybe.

What is "TPP" ?

@sigfried: i agree about the open world shallowness of games. Wonder if MGS will retain its depth. Its Kojima, I think he will make sure it still stays a MGS.

OTOH, I am not happy with the see-through-walls tagging of enemies either. Was playing Metro Last Light and that game does stealth the way it should be: with no aids at all! Rely on ur eyes and ears and make your way through. What is the point of a stealth"gameplay" when u can see through walls? Where is the 'game', then? Playing LOU without Listen mode was a fantastic experience ! Atleast they catered to it by giving me that option but most games don't.

Its what made me lose interest in AC4. The treasure chests and other collectibles: I ain't really 'finding' them, they are all already there on my map, my job is just to fetch them like an obedient dog ! There's the chest, just go there and feel good about finding it ! Where is the fun of secret areas or of stumbling upon treasures or of actually exploring the world and discovering something ? Games have turned into an exercise of instant-self-rewarding, not the brain tingling, absorbing overcoming of challenges they used to be. Look at the new Thief, everyhting marked in brilliant blue for you to 'discover' !

I understand that with gfx getting so busy with details, its hard to spot enemies and things, but that can be overcome with correct art choices. Make the enemy's colour pallete such that they stand out in environments, give them a distinguishing silhoutte. same for objects, give them a striking appearance instead of making them glow everywhere.

Bah... I am sure Kojima will be the least spoilsport, so shouldn't be spoiling this thread, but devs need to look into these issues.

yeah, sounds like whining, but its legit from my point of view.

Dishonored did it well. And yeah, the busy gfx are indeed a problem in lots of games. Play Batman without detective mode: you simply cannot see shit most of the time. Metal Gear shouldn't have these problems though. The art in these games always read very well on screen. (unless it wasn't meant to)

Still wondering about the PC version, the watermark comes and goes on their posters.

[GT Interview] Kojima -
"Of course we are developing on a pc, so we look forward to releasing something on the PC sometime; but right now we don't have a release date. but we are making it." (3:45)

I'm probably expecting this to be in the same manner as Metal gear rising on PC, bundled all together with dlc and minor improvements.

One of the two shittiest game series has found a new way to rip people off. I'm not surprised. At least I'd only have to suffer through 90 minutes of convoluted elementary-school storytelling instead of endless hours of cutscene garbage. Hideo Kojima is one of the worst writers in the history of games. If someone put a gun to my head, I'd sit through it for $40 rather than sit through MGS4 for $60.
