So I got my 80GB MGS4 bundle today and started playing. Beat the first act and had 64,000points left over to buy. What weapons should I get or upgrade using which items? I currently am using a stock M4.

you can probably get by with whatever weapons you have. i like to unlock the weapons that the PMC's/enemy soldiers have (or guns that use the same ammo) so you don't have buy as much ammo.
the M4 is also good because you can put a sound suppressor on it, and its a good all around gun (i find anyway). i also like to have a lot of rockets for the RPG-7 for bosses etc. the P90 is also a good gun to have for short-mid-range battles.

if you want to play the game as stealthy as possible, you may want different weapons. the way i'm playing is a mix of stealth and action (more action, i suck at being stealthy).

i played through it on easy for my first play-through.
now i'm playing through it on solid normal mode (i'm on the last act now).

Someone has recorded all MGS4 cinematics and uploaded them on internet [in 480p]. At least now we know that their combined time from start to the finish of the game is little over 9.5 hours.

:)

:)

Meaning I had 15hours of gameplay - longest SP game I've played for a long time. Well, since MGS3.

does the recorded gameplay time include cutscenes? i forget what my time was for easy mode, but i've just started the last act on solid normal and i'm at 8.5 hours. and i skipped the cutscenes fwiw.

my first playthough was probably longer despite being easier for obvious reasons. so the actual gameplay length of MGS4 is a little longer than average. up there with the longest games i've played of recent.

Save your money to buy expensive ammo later :)

You should be able to pick up upgrades and new weapons if you are thorough enough (e.g., M4 masterkey shotgun attachment, suppressor, SVD sniper rifle, M60, ... can all be found in the field).

I bought Mosin Nagrant but didn't like it (SVD is more deadly). I think deepbrown uses Mosin though.

I am looking for the Solar Gun (first learned about it in Metal Gear AC!D):

Most of the weapons can be found, instead of buying. After finding so amny choices I stuck to my M4 and customised it with everything possible. Another gun, I can't remeber the name, is very deadly but with lower fire rate, P60 or something. Other than that the rocket launcher u find
after meeting Raiden for the first time, when u have to go throught the marketplace, dodging Gekkos,
is very quick to reload and has very litlle recoil. I used these three mostly, along with my SVD sometimes.;)

has anyone compared running the game at 1080i/p vs 720p? i have 720p and 1080i checked in the display settings, so MGS4 runs at 1080i by default.

I unchecked 1080i and 1080p to run it at 720p. Saw some jaggies aroung edges of the Wolf boss, no other immediate difference. i turned it back to 1080p as it was my first playthrough.

BTW, my 32" Bravia has max res 1336X768, so it must be downscaling 1080p to 720p for display.I dunno the exact way in which it downscales, but it does show on top left that my ps3 runs at 1080p. For pther games which do not support 1080p, it changes the res down to 720p(BF:BC)

but I didn't see those jaggies when running at 1080p.

thanks.

on another topic, MGS4 has sold 1m copies since release in Europe alone! ( link ) according to Konami. very impressive numbers, and well deserved.

I'm gonna put the red dot sights on the M4 and basically just use that. I might limit go back and take out everything from the menu and just equip a M4 and nades. Right now, it's a chore trying to cycle weapons. I rather just hit the cycle button and land on the next weapon I want but it doesn't work right most of the time. They should've allowed the weapon switching to be done on the dpad.

During the mission briefings use the MK2 to find a remote lying on the table in front of the tv. Aim precisely at it and press R1 to change the channels on the tv. You'll get to see picture's of a girl in bikini. In the bottom right corner of the tv it says slideshow nmbr 1. So may there are more of these.

Moisin...buy now. 60,000dp

Oh and Act 3 - which I originally thought was linear, isn't so much. This time a followed a resistance member above a bridge covered in PMC's and a helicopter circling (before the helicopter above the courtyard) and he made his way down into the river, and then through the sewers...was really great fun watching him from above and then following him down, swimming underwater so he wouldn't spot me, to then following him through the sewer full of rats! Act 3 just went up in my estimations. Each act has quite a few different routes to go through. In fact, in Act 3 I found an open grate to crawl underneath the buildings...as well as being able to go on the roof... Great.

No, Fortune's father was Vamp's boyfriend.

Not GF, Vamp was actually her father, Marine Commandant Scott Dolph's, lover. Yes, they were bisexual.
:) Guys, I didn't really mean a sexual relation when I said GF. But good to know.

I bought red-dot sight, which was useless for me, same little visibility as no attachment.
Scope works pretty good though. Anyway, you can wait for Drebin sales if you want, everything 20% to 50% off. :)
In general unlocking loot is much cheaper of course.

I tried shooting the resistance member with a tranquilliser dart and dragging him all the way to where he needs to be. When I woke him up I hid in the barre. But he decided to check it out and found me. He even tried to shoot me. He never looked at the barrel before that. After I ran off, he just went back and did his usual round for that area.

I bought Mosin twice, but couldn't see why you like it so much. The damage is not as great as SVD and DSR-1. :(

Yap ! I noticed that too. He took a different path on my second playthrough (I completed my second round, was able to defeat Liquid Ocelot without dying ;-) )
