After selecting new game I have to select the difficulty, then a screen says select radar type
Radar type1
Radar type2
Radar off
after selecting a radar, the cut scene with snake on the bridge starts!!!

DO NOT WORRY. It's prob good you dont have the questions. I selected "Haven't played MGS1" because I presumed it meant I would get loads more back story. What it actually meant was I missed out on ALL the Snake missions.

Yes, I can't recall what happened to me - but I had played a couple of hours before learning of this...I had to start again because I wanted to play that part - it's like a mini-game in itself.
OK, I completed Snake's Part and just started with Raiden!
I was surprised when Colonel called him Snake, his voice was not snake, then it turned out to be raiden.
Just landed on the Big shell , and I must say the graphics blew me away!! I mean the tanker looked normal, but Big Shell in this broad Daylight ROCKS!
I haven't played as Raiden much right now, just started, but it was Cool when they said the terrorist leader is
Solid Snake
I was like "Whoa!" Snake is already here, i just saw him !
Now, I can see how this is the actual start of the game !
will report later!

Exactly ! I was very very surprised when I looked at Big Shell! I was thinking that graphics will be old, but the gameplay will take me through, but man was I wrong!!!
This game is still GORGEOUS !
Also, Snake aged so much in two years! Also, Ocelot(liquid) clearly says that he'll age very quickly coz
Big Boss was cloned when he was in his 50s
, and so their bodies are approaching that faster! Although, that makes no sense as a newborn is still a new born , even if he is cloned!

I think Kojima took it from what some people believed caused a premature death to the cloned sheep Dolly and used it in the plot.
However, some believe a contributing factor to Dolly's death was that she could have been born with a genetic age of six years, the same age as the sheep from which she was cloned. One basis for this idea was the finding that Dolly's telomeres were short, which typically is a result of the aging process.[12][13] However, the Roslin Institute have stated that intensive health screening did not reveal any abnormalities in Dolly that could have come from advanced aging.[14]
Is it just me, or is it looking kinda bland? What do you guys think? Does time of day change while playing or does it keep that fixed look? The lighting seems relatively straightforward and the palette very muted.
The game seems to reflect death and salvation throughout. Besides the dull colors (like Saving Private Ryan ?), look at the war photos and renaissance paintings on the wall.
Dolly the cloned sheep comes to mind

True it was Foxdie that killed Liquid and it threatens Solid as well. But I was referring to the accelerated aging due to being a clone. That also seems to threaten him. Thats why
Liquid said: The price of physical prodigy... Few more years and you'll be another dead clone of the old man.Our raw materials are vintage brother. Big Boss was in his late fifties when they created his copies. But I -- I live on, through this arm.
.
No mention of the Foxdie there
Even without Foxdie it looks like Solid Snake health will be deteriorating.
Ames and then he says,"Now I see it. You tricked me" to Liquid Ocelot an dies ! and then the Ninja shows up to save Raiden.
I must say the story is getting very complicated, in the sense, that Raiden ( which, in effect, means me) has been told complete lies when it comes to what the hell is happening around him. and all the guys, as in MGS style,we are not sure who they are working for and who is manipulating whom, Friend and Foe is all messed up, Heck ! even the
President
is convoluted will b interesting to see how it all winds up!
I like the way those special characters are made, like Fortune and Vamp. Fatman was a bit normal( no superpowers) , and turned out to be the
first one
to die! BTW, I really enjoyed the Fatman battle,
diffusing bombs while trying to kill him
really was frantic and fun! At first, I had the sensor B equipped and could not see the bombs, It was only later that I switched back to sensor A, and could finish him off!
Then I got stuck when I couldn't get a guard to the retinal scanner. Either I would knock him out or raise the alarm. MGS3 had better CQC controls.I hope that MGS4 has 3-like controls option, I don't like context sensitive controls, coz then u have to wait till the correct icon pops up, and u can't pull off stuff unless the game decides that it is time to do particular move
There are some very definite differences in MGS3 and 2. MGS3 is a very personal story and I loved it for that. MGS2 is very "Cyber styled", "multiple agencies", "save the world from I dunno who till we save it" styled trying to be uber modern game ! I can see that, at that time anything computer related used to be very modern and cool ! Times and sensibilities! Konami said that MGS4 is closer to MGS2 than MGS3, but I still hope it will have the personal undertones of MGS3, I can see that in the trailers! I am not saying MGS2 is not cool, it is cool , but different!

True MGS2 had a less personal story. But that was its aim. Its aim was to put us in the shoes of Raiden. Who paradoxically is placed in our shoes. The purpose of this is to question ourselves and our existence. What we really know is that we may know nothing.
The following do not tell you what happens exactly to the story but I ve put them in spoiler tags so I wouldnt spoil you the conclusion and the questions the ending wants you to raise.
How much do we really know? Do we know or do we think we know? How much are our beliefs and ideologies defined by us and not by others? How much of our decisions and behavior are of our own? How much are we victims of the subjective and manipulated information around us? Are we "programmed" as a society to act in a certain way? Are we victims of our social context? What if our environment is manipulated? How much do our genes determine our course? Do I differ from the next person only in terms of my genes and some individual information I have received and processed?
Isnt my personality, beliefs and knowledge a subjective result of the information I receive from my environment, my brain and my five senses?
Who really am I??
In the context of politics:
Are we really sure that our governments do not manipulate our beliefs, behaviors, perceptions and decisions? Do they really give us the true picture and full information or do they create half truths, design fake perceptions in order to keep us in an illusion and in control?
Even if we assume these forces that manipulate the mass perception and behavior, die or disappear, would the illusion disappear with them? Or are we going to pass that illusion, the same manipulated social system, the fake and subjective beliefs and knowldege, the half truths and incomplete information from generation to generation? Forming another deluded society as if these forces still exist and control our lives?
Arent we inheriting false or subjective beliefs and information from the previous generations through history, religion, science, politics and patriotism and consider them as normal, given or truthful? Arent our societies formed on that information?
Thats why the Patriots are
immortal, and everywhere. Even when you think you are fighting them and that you are out of their influence you may still be caged in their delusion without knowing it
Just thought I'd drop in to say, that regardless how "disappointing" MGS4 ends up being for most/some, it's still my most hyped game this generation simply for the genious that Kojima is in regards to whole package: art-direction, attention to detail, story telling, characters, depth, A.I., humour and entertainment. Metal Gear Solid has always been one of those controversial games - and that's probably due to the creators fixating on more than just textures and polygons.
It's one of the games that truly delivers. Fixating on graphics alone just doesn't do any of the Metal Gear games any justice - they are so much more than just that! As with the previous games: the most stunning moments weren't the ones shown in screenshots, but moments of the game where just everything came together beautifully. It may not float every ones boat, but I for one, am extremely looking forward when the saga finally continues.
I agree Phil ! It is one game series which made me look away from graphics, and the only series I fell madly in love with. Snake is the human among game characters !
