On the advanced materials, I think once we get rid of this DX6 style multitexture, we'll be there. I'd guess in about 2 years we'll be pretty much completely rid of those, and the dominant standard will be VS2.0/PS2.0. A lot of it is up to when we get PS2.0 to low-end and to the integrated graphics solutions, unfortunately.

What are your thoughts on NVIDIA's GeForceFX5200 series in regards to a low end DX9 solution? Is it good that NVIDIA has gotten DX9 down to the low end? Will this card help quicken th adoption of DX9 in games? Or do you feel that the 5200 is too slow when using shaders to be helpful in that regard?

In a sense it's excellent to have DX9 features in the low-end budget price cards as well. The performance of course leaves something to be desired :)

But some limited shader usage may be possible, i.e. games that mostly use DX8 shaders could now, with DX9 available on the low-end cards, easier adopt some simple DX9 shaders for some special effects.
