Holy. Shit. That's a gap. Over 400,000 units' difference between 3 and 4...

Ns only competition were their own titles (pokemon) :p (unless you count Tao Feng, heh)

edit: sort of sad that Halo is still the #1 seller on Xbox =/

Sounds like MS has close to a 1 to 1 attach rate for their hardware & Halo going (not counting the bundle..)

So Nintendo really sold 1.1 million zeldas (considering TRSTS only reporting about 70 - 80% of the market). Impressive, I bet that bundle-deal helped a lot. I'm surprised that Pokemon is still going strong too, though in the US they're definitely not as crazy about it as in Japan :)

the general consensus so far is that the list is a fake (several anamoly like Driver 2 Advance sudden jump in sales, etc), March data will be released May 2nd (or later), according to UBS Warburg

-aneep-

For which region is this?

Pretty funny to see Halo still selling as much as it does. Is that a good or a bad thing, really? I mean, either the game's amazing and with incredible staying-power considering it is a launch title, or else there simply isn't anything BETTER to spend money on if you're an XB owner...

I'm kind of inclined to say the second alternative is the true one, considering it was the HIGHEST ranking XB title on the list (at thirty-second place too). Was march a particulary bad month as far as new releases for that console?

*G*

If you read this thread over on Gaming Age you will see that there is a lot of evidence to support the fact that this list is accurate.

What is amusing is that one of the GA posters has said that he will "kill" himself if the list is true.

Some people are really passionate about wanting the GC to fail! ;)

I don't know why people are surprised with the Zelda sales, or the lack of Xbox titles. This is the reality of the market.

Wouldn't be surprising with regard to Zelda. Weren't there 400,000+ pre-orders at least?

I wouldn't be surprised to see that rate of sell-through, especially since Nintendo started bundling in one free game with the system. Hmm.. I wonder what the console sales for March are, to see if there's a direct corrolation between Zelda and increased sales, if any.

They're true guys..just got this from the IGN boards:

"Just a heads up, these numbers are now verified through Wedbush Morgan's NPD preview. They're true. "

March 2003 NPD Video Game Sales Data

OVERVIEW
On Monday afternoon, NPD Funworld released its March 2003 (5-week period ending April 5) TRSTS sales data for U.S. console video game software sales. Total sales were $439 million, up 32% sequentially from February’s $334 million, and up 8% compared to March 2002. The sequential increase is attributable to a rebound from the post holiday sales slowdown as well as several mega hits released in the month. Year-to-date sales are $1,094 million compared with prior year-to-date of $1,075
million (a year-over-year increase of 2%).
Projected $'s (millions)

We had anticipated software sales of $425 million, so the overall sales figures were above our expectations. We believe that the
year-over-year increase was attributable to the relatively strong release schedule in March 2003, compared to last March. We
believe that industry sales figures will wax and wane in correlation with the number of mega hit titles released each month and
remain confident that sales will continue to be strong into 2003 and expect to end the year up over 20% from 2002.

March sales were dominated by Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (GC), Pokemon Ruby (GBA), and Pokemon
Sapphire (GBA), representing a combined $78 million in sales. March sales were also driven by continuing sales of Take-Two Interactive’s Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (PS2), Electronic Arts’ The Sims (PS2), Konami’s Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelists of the Roses (PS2), and Sony’s The Getaway (PS2). Other top March releases include baseball titles (lead by Electronic Arts’ MVP Baseball 2003), Electronic Arts’ Def Jam Vendetta (PS2 and GC), and Activision’s Tenchu 3 (PS2). There were 10 games selling more than 100,000 units apiece in March (this compares to our expectation of 10 and seven last month). The top 200 games (out of 3,000 games sold in March) captured 62% of unit sales and 74% of dollar sales, compared with 62% of unit sales and 70% of dollar sales in February, with the top 250 games capturing 78% of dollar sales. The top 10 captured 28% of dollar sales versus 19% last month.

Nintendo's got to be happy with Zelda..it still remains to be seen if it helped move hardware. And what about Pokemon? Wow! Over 1.2 million copies combined of Sapphire and Ruby. It's still very popular. Not as much as Japan but this one should have some staying power. Watch the GBA's attach ratio climb. Look how well the GBA games sold on it's top 10 list. That along with the SP flying off the shelves makes me happy. I noticed Nintendo has slowed thier advertising of theSP to almost nothing as to keep up with stock.

Sadly, this is true. The much anticipated flood of Xbox games never really materialized... Splinter Cell is a multiplatform game, UT2k3 and MechAssault sucked, PDO sold next to no copies, Brute Force doesn't look appealing at all, and Crimson Skies 2 got delayed again and again. (Is that game out yet?!?!)

However, I still like my Xbox. Halo LAN parties are great fun, and you can't do that with any other console. ^^

We Xbots can only wait for Halo 2... in the meantime we will play Warcraft 3 since Xbox owners are mostly PC gamers anyways.

You can't? I've been playing 6 player i-link Gran Turismo for a couple of years now. You can link up to 8 consoles for Timesplitters 2 with four players on each. I think you'll find the PS2 holds it's own when it comes to network parties. Even Unreal had a four player ilink mode when the PS2 was launched!

Well, everyone has their own opinion. Personally, I prefer the Xbox lineup the most.

Sales were poor on Xbox in March though, no doubt about it. There's been some poor demographic choices in the first quarter of 2003, in that many of the best games don't appeal to the casual Xbox owner. Games like Tao Feng and PDO come to mind.

The xbox sales are surprisingly low nonetheless. Unless something new happens, the xbox will sell quite well this month (at least with respect to previous months, not with respect to ps2, of course), but you can ask, what games new xbox owners are buying ??

eh my post dissappear

good to know the list is true, can't believe both UBS Warburg and WEdBush Morgan were wrong in predicting when the data will be released (both says early may, my main reason to believe the data is fake earlier)

and Natoma, the latest update to the preoder press release was 600k IIRC (i don't remember how many times N issues press release for Zelda pre order status though, just the ammo their fans need i guess)
