Kirby: Epic Yarn

BTW, this is the original Kirby's Adventure commercial in Japan. I'm willing to bet it might have influenced the current graphical style.

There's a new trailer on GT. Check out the fire-engine at 50s!

Looks to have oodles of variety.

Yes, it does look amazing. the look.

Now imagine using Wiimote+ to play with the threads (e.g., lasso, rather than simple hit and collision).
It would be a different game though.

Is that yarn sperm in the trailer?

New trailer.

It's best you watch it in HD. The game still looks gorgeous at that resolution.

Does Kirby use sprite based graphics or not? How are they doing those effects if it isn't?
My guess is textured polygon "threads" animated in a way so that the depth remains relatively the same. That way, a turning character/object looks like it was animated to turn around.

Since the game is coming out this Sunday it won't be long 'till we figure it out.

IGN has their review up (9.0?!). 1UP gives it an A-.
Gametrailers has theirs as well:

GameInformer, Giant Bomb, other sites are also surprisingly positive.

A closer reveal in the Dolphin emulator reveals that the thread that consists the characters is either some sort of cleaver fur shading, meaning to say this isn't sprite based animation but vector based.
