Kinect Games

Here's the video for Peter Molyneux's guest appearance on the Engadget Show. Hit the 16:50 mark to get to the Kinect & Fable 3 discussion. Hit 20:20 mark for the Milo discussion.

Looks to me that Fable 3 Kinect support is still up in the air. I could possibly see a DLC level later next year that's totally a Kinect experience and not just a gimmick, but then again I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't see anything at all until Fable 4.

Just a heads up. Saw this on the Xbox.com forums...

During the E3 event, it was announced that there would be 20 unique minigames within Kinect Adventures. This was repeated as late as July 20, 2010, when Microsoft released a press release about Kinect Adventures stating: "With “Kinect Adventures,” players will make their way through 20 adventures..." See LINK. In fact, when you go to the U.S. version of www.xbox.com, under Kinect Games, it states that there are 20 games within Kinect Adventures--"You and your friends and family will jump, dodge, and kick your way through 20 of pulse-pounding adventures set in exotic locations..." See LINK. The UK version of xbox.com similarly identifies 20 games.

However, when you go to the Australian version of www.xbox.com and check under Kinect Games, it describes Kinect Adventures by stating: "With 12 action-packed games, Kinect Adventures delivers pulse-racing adventure to you and your family..." See LINK. Similarly, the Canadian version of xbox.com lists only 12 games. See LINK.

By comparing these different versions of the same website, we can see that the Canadian and Australian versions of Kinect Adventures each have 40% less "adventure" than the U.S. and U.K. versions. As far as I can tell, this is something that Microsoft has never commented on, nor is it something that anyone in the gaming press has ever figured out.

It's always interesting to see the impressions of people who don't particularly like Kinect and especially don't have interest in Kinect when they try Dance Central.

It's almost universal that they end up having fun with it and then afterwards they come away either now possibly considering Kinect or even turning around 180 and liking it.

Kinect support announced for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1. See video at link...

Saw that. Looks really limited, like the Star Wars concept. It's a bit depressing to see these games so perfectly suited to the Move announcing tragic Kinect support.

Truth to be told, they all will be fun to the intended audience with or without controllers -- as long as the games are rewarding to play and easy to get into.

Pray, don't hate on Kinect. It's like hating on PSEye to me.

I don't mind so much some of the limitations of the launch titles because with more time with the tools Kinect games have the potential to really shine.

Now on to more news...

More hands on with Kinect Adventures. This time GamePro got to try more River Rush, Reflex Ridge and new game called Space Pop...

Space Pop was a competitive game in which my opponent and I floated around in a space station collecting randomly-appearing, quickly-disappearing coins on our halves of the screen. The game took place in a 2D plane, with the ability to move between the foreground and background by leaning forward and backward. Waving my hands made my avatar float upwards while holding them to my sides brought me down to the ground. Seeing as how I’ve never taken part in zero-gravity movement, I can’t vouch for the authenticity of the movement, but it didn’t feel like gravity-free movement to me. Had this been set underwater, I might have felt differently.

For successfully meeting the objectives of the adventure, my partner and I were able to bask in the reward of temporarily being turned into yetis. With onscreen yetis mimicking our actions, we were told to growl so that the game could alter our voices to sound like the guttural yells of the snowbound creatures. Due to the noise of the demo area, I was unable to judge how my dulcet tones sounded when translated to yeti.
