Killing video game characters.. or are they characters?

The quality isn't far removed. Obviously the first one is using more polygons to get that rounder look and it seems some sort of skin shader.

I would say the SH3 one looks more realistic, however, the first one is more appealing to my eye.

Also, the first one looks CG'ish.

Comparing the two.. I don't see how PS3/xbox2/whatever wouldn't be able to do the first one in an actuall game scenario.

look at the lighting the those two scenes... the shadowing and lighting in the first one are much much better. That pic is also a bad one from that movie there is much better to show the quality

The quality still isn't far removed in terms of realism no matter how much you break it down. PS3/xbox2/w/e will be able to do characters like that im sure.

Anyway, can you link me to the movie? I'm trying to look for more screens and crap from it.

yea i'm trying to figure out where its from as i saw the pics a few weeks ago and don't remember where

That's exactly what I'm thinking. Although it's obvious SH3 character is using lower level technology, it's appearance is maybe even more realistic due to really natural looking texturing. That bald guy just looks more synthetic, somehow.

then the they have to move like real people and act like real people and interact with their surrondings .

Indeed 'MOVE and ACT' the physics required for the clothing, the skin'with muscles underneath', the long hairs... and that's just for the characters...

I reckon you'd need a REALLY POWERFUL CPU FOR THAT kinda physics ;)

thats what i'm talking about bro

"I reckon you'd need a REALLY POWERFUL CPU FOR THAT kinda physics"

A 1Tflop Emotion Engine 3 should to the trick nicely :)

okay for the physics ... how about game ai and whatever other effects have to be done in software and all the other crap the cpu has to do .

Well, 1Tflop should be able to do everything rather well. Not to mention your gonna have the rasterizer, which will (i hope) be vastly better in design than the ps2's.

Who said 1Tflops? Who said all effects in software haven't been taken into account?

I say multiTeraflops monster, with massive cgish capabilities, and support for resolution beyond 1080p...

EDITED

and i say it isn't and unless either of us has a 1tflop chip around and the time to code something like that its a moot point isn't it so lets drop it for now .

Well, we'll drop it... but still that's better than a 3d nondedicated processor'cpu'.... we see nec is going with someone, and ibm already with another player... but someone out there....

we need a quantum CPU.... ;)
u won't see a *quantum CPU* for a LOOOOOOONG time, if EVER...... and especially in a console

What if they rename Cell as Quantum....

that would make it very *star trek* to the masses, and would probably attract even more attention... of course it will only confuse who actually know what a quantum computer is... i mean no one really knows what a quantum computer is since there is no such thing.. all we can do is speculate on how it could be done etc...

Actually it would be good idea to rename it as Quantum CPU.....sounds more sci-fi than Cell or Broadband Engine...

MMMMM... that would be a bit too much even for Sony... they never got away with naming a Chip *the Emotion Engine*, which to be honest was a change from SH4 or X86 or whatever lifeless number chips usually have
