Japan Sales Thread *renamed

Damn, give it a few weeks and ps3 will be competing with x360 in Japan, who has ever though that?

It's hardly that bad! currently they're selling 4 times the number xb360 is.

What would be interesting to see is if MS managed to outsell ps3 if only for a week on the back of something like a trusty bell or LO.

PS3 8,839
Xbox360 2,105

lol, at this rate, you really gotta feel sorry for japanese centric nextgen developers. All their big expensive projects have a collective install base of....1.5million?

I'm sure they've already jumped ship on 360 a long time ago though, and will still be firmly in Sony's boat for better or worse.

I doubt it. The 360s outlook going forward since before inception is that it would languish in third place in japan. So if Japan devs took a chance on the 360 they probably did so with games that could target the world market.

The PS3 on the other hand might be a different scenario especially if there were a good amount of devs who targetted that platform with japanese centric games, which is way more than likely in comparsion to the 360.

But the question is:
With current Japanese sales trends (and worldwide sales trends), why would a J-Dev not target Wii instead?

The answer is: not everyone feels that being a small fish in the big pond is better than being the big fish in a small pond.

Not everyone but look at ps2's game library last gen. Most didn't mind swimming in a big pond. ;)

Otherwise we would have seen many more GC and or xbox1 games from these devs.

I agree with your thought process though and I'm sure some will do just this. May have been Tecmo's thought process as well with xbox1 and Ninja Gaiden...

Yeah, but if you were a japanese dev you were never expecting the 360 to represent the big pond while with the PS3 for a large % of japanese devs that pond is a lot smaller than expected.

Agreed.

That's why I expect Wii domination on the "to-do" list of Japanese developers. Whether that means ps3 to Wii ports or dropping ps3 development all together will likely be up to the studio and what they can fiscally accept/absorb.

May be a good time for MS/Sony to start fostering a few $ relationships with some of these devs that may be facing a very different landscape than they planned for and may be ripe for financial assistance (paid exclusives or buyouts).

Agreed, but I think most devs aren't giving up on the PS3 just yet but the current conditions forces devs to account for the Wii more heavily than before.

I found these on a Finnish site, they should be real.

I'm doing my part...

This is where I brag about my contribution to the Japan PS3 sales charts

There has been such a dearth of PS3 games I have mostly been buying BR movies. Last game I bought on disc was in Feb (VF5). But at least there have been a couple good games on PSN to DL. Even Calling All Cars just came out in on the JP PSN.
