Japan Sales Thread *renamed

Yep, but 360 is making a nice headway to Xbox1 and there are still quite a few big releases coming to the system, so in the lifetime sales X360 will surpass Xbox1 with a very significant margin.

In terms of Japan, xbox360 has already outsold xbox by nearly 25%.

Remember when we thought the Xbox 360 was sold out at one Japanese store? That's not all. It's sold out across the whole damn country. Like, sold out sold out. It's so sold out that Microsoft Japan actually put out an official statement about the situation in The Land of the Rising Sun, apologizing for the lack of consoles. Since demand has eclipsed supply, Microsoft's supply has gone totally dry. The company is ramping up production, and the console will not be shipped to stores until next month.

We've translated the full statement after the jump.

To all customers

We truly thank you for all your patronage in the past.

Currently, the Xbox 360 is sold out, and retailers are unable to restock their supply. This is a result of our own sales targets being exceeded by the actual customer sales. We deeply apologize for this inconvenience to our customers, retailers and business partners.

Here at Microsoft, we are moving forward quickly with console production, and plan to ship the standard Xbox 360 model out this September. Furthermore, we will sequentially be shipping out the Elite and the Arcade models. We ask that you please patiently wait until the console is shipped.

We truly thank you for your patronage hereafter.

I'm guessing next month they will announce the 60 gig units for japan? They also have another JRPG coming out in Sept. So perhaps they can keep sales high through the holiday. I also wonder if Square will think about ff13 on the 360 for japan now. I mean if they are already making it for the 360 how hard can it be to put the japanese audio on the disc and ship it ?

You seem to be confused. The full story is: the PS3 JP game will be finished first. Then they'll, at the same time, tackle localization and porting. 360 FFXIII might happen (probably will) but only when the 360 version is ready. So that's 2010+.

No , The PS3 JP verison will release first , then while doing Localization they will port it for the western markets. Howeveri t will never come out on the xbox in japan apparently. Which I think isa poor move on Squares part. They should release it on the 360 and add some DLC to it. I think it can still move a few hundred thousand copies in japan even if it comes out 6months to a year later.

I'm pretty sure that if it's cost-effective, S-E will release it in Japan, maybe as the 'Western version'. But you're being far too generous. It wouldn't move a few hundred thousand copies. Remember, the 360 install base is 600k. Even if they manage to sell a ~30k for a few more weeks, it's not going to make a huge impact on that. Doubtless there are 360-only fans in Japan, but what percentage of the total user-base are they? Are they really going to hold out on getting the PS3 version to get the multi-disk version 6 months later? Would you, if you were in their shoes?

Seems like ff13 wont be out in japan till next fall so the 360 could actually hit 1m by then. It depends on what these Square rpgs do for it over this holiday season I guess.

latest numbers at GAF show the PS3 back on top (13k vs 7200). wonder if its a supply issue, or TOV was just a temporary bump.

Well, it's almost certainly a temporary bump, but I'd bet that 360's would be higher. Still, aren't those numbers high for PS3? It's like a 50% bump over last week.

well, its definitely a temporary bump in the sense that it won't stay at ~24k/week. but i thought it would be higher than 7200.
as for the 13k for the PS3, dunno what would cause the ~50% bump either, but i dunno if the numbers are from famitsu or MC (if that matters).

It's some kind of holiday in Japan. All hardware will get a boost for the week.

360 will go down because there are no consoles left in that country. However like I said there is another jrpg from square next month so i think this is a good thing , MS may see a 50k week when shipments start up again
