Japan Sales Thread *renamed

Based on those numbers, Wii is the one needing title help. Their ongoing sales do not support their advantage in installed base, and, worse, combined PS2+PS3 sales are exceeding Wii, and PS3 ongoing sales are healthy considering the lack of next-gen titles. When the pipeline starts to kick them out, PS3 ongoing will exceed Wii ongoing.

Meanwhile nobody japanese trusts the 360 to deliver, and they are stuck at 5 digits installed base.
Is the Wii still supply-constrained in JPN? Why do you lump the PS2 and PS3 together?

Looks like the PS2 is back to near 20k after a few week sales spike. The DS continues to print money and nintendo can't keep either the ds or Wii in stock it seems. It is pretty amazing 45 of the top 50 games are on a nintendo platform. Sony and MS are just getting steamed rolled by Nintendo in japan.

The Wii is definately supply limited. I wonder what the actual demand of the Wii is. BTW, the PS2 is officially dying.

I wonder if there is a propagandistic value to Nintendo not being able to produce enough hardware, expecially Wiis. When I go food shopping I hop around to electronics stores, and have yet to see a Wii. I thought the thing was supposed to be cheap and easy to produce yet supply has trickled. I am beginning to think that they don't want to exhaust the system as there are no games for it other than Zelda and a couple of tech demos (wii sports and wii play). Either way kudos to Nintendo for they seemed to have convinced consumers that they are in the toy business and not the tech business.

I hope to pick up a wii when Super Paper Mario comes out and might have to get a DS for Wind Waker 2.

Wii and DS sales combined exceed sales of every other system combined, who cares?.. there's little relivance there. Just like there's little to no relivance in combined PS3 and PS2 sales?

If one week could be considered ongoing sales then you might have a point about PS3.. As it is though PS3's ongoing sales have been around 22-23,000. It got a two week spike in sales due to a popular game and has now plummted back down to the same 22,000 per week. It may now drop even further unless another new game can give it another temporary push (its hit as low as 19,000 this year AFAIR).. Meanwhile Wii is sitting comfortably between 50-70,000 every week, going up and down depending on supply. As I've said before a new super popular game could come out for Wii right now and we'd see no difference in sales, because its selling out every week anyway.

Well clearly the supply can't be trickling. If that was the case then you couldn't have 250,000-300,000 sales in Japan, 350-450,000 sales in the US, and hundreds of thousands in Europe every month.

Every month? Aren't these global numbers? If I am reading correctly units sold year (2.7 months) to date is 1.8 million, a good amount but since wiis can not be found it implies that 1.8 million have been supplied. I am finding it hard to believe that supplying only 1.8 million units of a console (YTD) that is in high demand (to the point that people can not find it) and is relatively cheap and easy to produce is due to lack of production. The wiis were flowing from launch to early January than they hit a snag. I don't know what this snag was but it's there.

That 1.8 Million is for Japan alone. So yeah the numbers previously quoted are for each territory and it adds up to a buttload of systems.

That's 1.8 million since launch in Japan, i.e. 1st week of December.

The 1.8 million number is total sales so far for Japan alone. There's another 2.4 million sold in the US and 1.7 million in Europe. Global sales for Wii are between 900,000 to 1 million every month at the moment.

 Gadzuks!! I feel silly.

Impressive. I'm unable to click on many of these links (security considerations@work) I now see the light. This is unbelievable, I still haven't seen the damn thing yet, and to imagine that wii-centric killer apps have not been released yet (other than Zeldawii).

the software charts are interesting too ... loads of different ds titles but koeis mosu game sells as many copies as all of the others combined. there is still potential on other platforms it seems but you need the right title.

Well Japan is also the only area where PS2 is behind both WII and PS3. I think PS2 can still sell more than "nextgen" until this fall in Europe.

Looks like sales overall are slumping but given Wii's decline over the past few weeks you'd think I'd be able to find one in the store. :devilish:

I didn't think sales would be falling this rapidly. Is this typical in Japan?
