Image Quality and Framebuffer Speculations for WIP/alpha/beta/E3 games *Read the first post*

Some AVP comparison, holy shit did the PS3 version get a blur fest again or was that what everyone been getting? The first rollover comparison pics was almost like a DOF effect on the PS3 version and really making me nausea just to look at it. I don't remember it was this bad from another comparison sometime ago.

Looks blurrier than previous comparision. Though both are sub HD or did I read it wrong Al?

Also PS3 lacks SSAO? How come as that gives lots of depth to game..

EDIT: I think the capturing of PS3 came out wrong. Like DOF up your face giving me instant eye strain.

Yeah looks like SSAO although might instead be some shader effect that is present for Aliens outlining contours with black color. Similar to SSAO perhaps. Reason I say this is becouse on the marines hand and machine gun there was no SSAO in PS3 shot but 360 shot had it.

You know what I could check it on my PC becouse there is setting to disable SSAO so I could check with Aliens vision.

Sure. I'm just saying, nothing is concrete. They are months away from release, and they could still be tweaking the environment textures for all we know. A lot of the polish comes towards the end. Heck, even the water was tweaked between the Halo 3 beta and final.

These three images ought to be self-explanatory...

1152x720 I'd honestly like more steps to make sure it is 1152 though. The compression is making it kinda fishy. Decent amount of texture filtering seems rather evident.

It's weird though that whey went with higher vertical resolution rather than horizontal.

Hm... well, the vertical resolution will help more in defining landscapes, whereas the horizontal res helps with thin vertical objects, like characters. The horizontal scaling adding blur to character edges ought not to be as distracting (I would think) compared to the larger background. *shrug*
