Image Quality and Framebuffer Speculations for WIP/alpha/beta/E3 games *Read the first post*

All the shots seem pretty consistent to me as far as brightness/contrast levels are concerned which seems to suggest that none of them are swapped. Ignoring the sync issues (like the first shot that was posted above me) and the few shot where it seems like the textures are late to load, it seems more or less identical. Only difference I see worth mentioning is the 360's water looks a little better.

So they nailed 720p on ps3 after all, though still lacking in the effects resolution this time around. On the other hand the black crush on the 360 is way too strong, so many subtleties are taken away.

The need for gamma adjustments are typical. That he didn't even enable v-sync in the options and used a ton of compression leaves much to be desired on any analysis.

Particles and effects are at a much lower resolution in the PS3 shots. That looks like the more noticeable difference, especially in the last comparison.

Inconsistent in that regard actually. The fire resolution appears to be the same, but the lighting sticks out as lower res on the PS3 for sure.

Hopefully there is a 1080p output option on the PS3 this time as well.

It isn't as noticeable with the fire, or the dripping water here: http://www.videogameszone.de/m,browser_fullscreen/?pic_mode=fullscreen&pic=%2Fscreenshots%2Foriginal%2F2010%2F02%2FBioShock%5F2%5FVergleich%5FPS3%5Fvs%5FXbox%5F360%5FScreenshots%5F04%2Ejpg&name=BioShock%202%3A%20Grafik%2DVergleich%20zwischen%20PlayStation%2D3%2D%20und%20Xbox%2D360%2DVersion

All seems lower res to me though.

wow the water reflections on the 360 version shits on the ps3 version, i think some of the blurriness on the other pics may be an artifact of these lower resolution reflections.

as for the texture quality in this picture, they're not mistakenly switched you can see the more pixelated water reflections on the ps3 version so they are appropriately labeled per consoles. but the texture quality on the signs is pretty damn bothersome im hoping that the pic was taken right before a higher quality mipmap could be loaded in. Otherwise maybe the ps3 version has better LOD bias.

Speculation Rant: possibly because the ps3 version of Bioshock 2 has a mandatory install they're using that extra streaming bandwidth to increase texture quality LOD, where as the 360 version will have to work streaming off disc the LOD bias is less since they have less bandwidth. Sorta like what happend with borderlands but instead of raping the texture quality of the base textures they simply reduce the LOD bias. If this is true its really good that the ps3 version has that hdd otherwise things coulda gotten real ugly.

To be honest the ps3 picture seems more blurried in general...maybe a blur filter or a bit lower resolution or both like the previous game.

AlStrong said the PS3 is 720p. Unless there's AA on the 360 version, doesn't make sense that they would only add a blur filter to the PS3 version. Also, lower contrast makes things look a little blurrier.
