Image Quality and Framebuffer Speculations for WIP/alpha/beta/E3 games *Read the first post*

Or maybe the beta is an old version , and has been made available to make some tests, and the final version will include some "improvements" compared to the one the beta testers enjoy...

Or maybe with that amount of geometry and small subpixel details, MLAA is just not worth the processing resources? It would maybe look OK in still images but I'm sure in movement it'd be a mess of shimmering and popping pixels.

Remember guys, it's not a silver bullet...

So in some cases MLAA is worse than No AA?

Absolutely no... I continue to surprise me to read MLAA artifacs are so terrible or worse of an almost 'useless' & expensive 2xmsaa or no AA :???: probably too much expensive for infamous 2...MLAA is excellent imho & sure better of 2xmsaa or nothing...

Looks like they have a lot of physics and AI going on at times, so it could be a matter of being CPU limited in some situations, and not being able to fit MLAA in. Just a wild guess, but seems another possible reason.

they should add an option for a cheap edge filter that you can turn on in the option menu. Something like the cheap PostAA from crysis 2.

It's a screen space post process effect so yeah in some cases it can be worse than no aa, it really depends on the art and on how the camera is controlled. Personally I wish some games would have the option to turn mlaa off.

Is that it? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, it's the second open world console game (Mafia 2 on 360 was first, SSAO in AC:B is limited only to some areas and cutscenes) that has SSAO.

There are a few twins in there though, but hopefully there won't be too many.

You'd think that MLAA was a no-brainer, but either they need all SPU power for physics and such (which I can definitely understand seeing some of the user generated content stuff on youtube) or they're out of memory (which seems slightly less likely as they're not a multi-platform developer). My guess would be that SPUs are already being stretched.

Yeah, but on the plus side I'm glad that they retained the native 1280 x 720 res at least, for an open world game I'm really not that fussed about some aliasing, detail in the distance however is more important as higher res would give you a clearer view.

Hm, I don't know...I very sceptic with respect to the graphics of this game!

At gamescom (about one year ago)...I was shocked about how bad this game looked!! Explosions and smoke looked super extreme low res!
It might be 720p...but I bet that lot's of low res effects are still in...but I think we have to wait for the final game to see the upgrade...

Did you have seen the update after GC events or the beta features? :???: Because the graphic it's everything except bad... the only thing bad in my mind is the lack of AA filter but even the transparencies appears enough goods...
