Image Quality and Framebuffer Analysis for Available/release build Games *Read the first post*

Some of the lower res PS3 stuff seems to stem from a slightly closer zoom on the characters the PS3 in some shots that I've seen. They are both the same, now seeing with a 'fresh' pair of eyes. My bad, I was really tired last night.

Although, there does seem to be some subtlties between the two with regards to some of the super effects. Not noticeable when playing, but there all the same. The shot in my last post for example, appears to be taken from the same point in each version identically.

Anyway here's the AF thing:

Mod : It'd be easier if you tell people what you looking at. eg. "Notice the grass softness in PS3 version versus XB360 version."

self shadows edges, better filtering on the 360. look between dante legs and superskulls crotch. consistent with all other pics, so theres that one minor difference. i think capcom just decided to go as much parity as possible just cause the outrage from sf4.

I don't know how reliable could be this cap from youtube, but if the direct cap not change, the texture definition on the ps3 can suffer more than expected for the 1024 choice, more than the general IQ.

Thats definitely not yt capture, thats direct feed.I'm surprised how good/clean 360 version looks in that picture inside sub.

Nathan Camarilo had couple of advices on twitter on how to make it look better on consoles.Turn down sharpness if you have it on max and noise reduction. It helped.I put sharpness on 50% and it definitely looks better than 100%,it creates far less artifacts...jaggies are pretty much non existent from a feet and it definitely looks nice and clean.

Never would guess its not native 720p game btw.

The bluring in those shots on PS3 has very little to do with the resolution at which it is running unless it's far lower than 1024x720.

SB

:s
sharpness should always be at its default value, i.e. the value that disables any "sharpness enhancements"
the only thing you get by activating that kind of stuff is artifacts

Are you sure? It seem the same leaked after the youtube video.... if is it so, the IQ on the ps3 is more terrible than I thought :/ looked the fine details on the texture: are completely gone on the ps3...

The only good advice as far as additional processing and enhancement is concerned is to eliminate it entirely. Noise reduction is unnecessary for today's games because generally speaking they aren't noisy sources to begin with. As for sharpness, someone already mentioned pretty much how it is set.

Yea I know its just that my TV was at whopping 95% sharpness. As soon as I tuned it down to 50% it was much better as far as IQ goes.

Every TV has a neutral point for sharpness, sometimes it's 0, 40 or 50. Beyond this point is just "edge enhancement". Pretty much all "enhancements" should be disabled on your TV.

On my TV set setting sharpness just a tiny bit above 0 (5 out of 100 to be specific) helps a bit with the "softness" of upscaled ~720p image, without being too obnoxious. Of course it's not "100% pure signal" if that's what you're aiming for but I think it improves perceived sharpness quite nicely. So maybe it's worth experimenting. I surely wouldn't recommend going with extreme values like 50% or 95% though. :p

These are direct feed shots and this is why people shouldn't rely on YT vids and celebrate early. 1024 x 720 res almost completely ruins that beautiful canvas.

They are using RSX to scale right? The results could've been better if they did a software upscale instead but that would require some work I guess. I'm curios over why they don't do the HUD after the scaling, the stretching of HUD is pretty damn obvious to see, the square button is now rectangle shaped and the stretch is by 20% which is synonymous with the 20% of horizontal scaling.

Seems a high possibility given that the HUD elements appear to be scaled as well.

They'd need more memory. Given the memory savings from the lowered resolution, memory seems a rather tight commodity for them.

1024 upscaled to 1280 shouldn't be that blurry. Resolution is mainly an issue for objects in the distance, not up-close.
