Image Quality and Framebuffer Analysis for Available/release build Games *Read the first post*

Just a question regarding GOW Collection: according to this forum, the game is 720p and 2xAA.
But why is the IQ of this game so damn good? Up to the point I played it, there is no jaggie in sight and it looks extremely clean...if I compare this to other 720p 2xAA games (such as for instance Uncharted 2, which has occasionally some pronounced aliasing) I really start to wonder if it is only my personal perception or if there is a technical reason?

The HDR in U2 breaks the AA method, so the brightest lines needing the most AA actually get none. GOW is all dark and low contrast and LDR, so the AA is consistent and jaggies less visible.

May be game design, so dark areas with no high contrast difference.

Thanks for the answers! So it is simple art (and low tech :LOL:), regardless...it impresses me somehow and makes the Collection a really worthy buy.

End of Eternity(Resonance of Fate)

I downloaded both demo on each system. All I can say that the PS3 version have lower anisotropic filtering & the shadow resolution is also lower over the 360 version of the demo(as usual Quicunx make the picture quality look more blurred on the PS3 version overall).

As for the rest it look pretty much the same

If use the QAA anisotropic filter could seems lower for this.

the lighting has been scaled down.

Now it matches this version more closely:

Hope this does not affect the quality of the rest of the game ...

fixed up you mean, do the comparison.....they gave her more hair on her right side, and a necklace too.

they also gave her way better alpha mapping on her hair, and also reduced some of the glossiness of her skin, as well as increased the warmth of it and on her lips too.

if there's any version id rather have it would most definitely be the new one.

thanks for the comparison shots!
I like the new 'lightning'-character also.

You see better and more shadows.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zsej-y6PGdA&hd=1 some glow effects appear to be missing.
But if the framerate is better, then I'm happy :)

sure, no prob.

the lighting engine is a little different between the two versions, it was tweaked here and there.

the weird glowing lighting source that was on Sazh's afro was changed but an increase in highlights are present.

some of the lighting effects were probably taken away or altered do to the anonymous points of origins they had. (the glowing aura that was on Sazh's afro followed him everywhere even when there was no particular lighting source pointing at it.)

new build seems better, last two comparison you can see Lighting's sword cast shadow on the character, same with the Afro guy, he has more shadow and they all seems to have softer edge. Final is definitely better to me.

Seems to be 1152*648; I'm getting a consistent 9 steps every 10 pixels in both dimensions

edit: posts moved to appropriate thread

The letterboxed scenes appear to be 720p with an edge blur of sorts, at least on 360.

the late night edit: Most of the letterboxed scenes are 720p, at least one is 648p res, but the one might be a transition scene? I don't know.

The game also goes into letterbox mode whenever you lock onto a specific target or deal one of the many scripted killing blows.

is the actual gameplay on 360 720p or are some of the cut scenes 720p?
