The same way as when your friends are around: Stop trying to be funny. You always fail. (OK, I can only talk about your attempts here.)How do I solve the issue when "other" people are around(ie: not friends, just randoms)?
Today in English I've been told that immaturity is not tolerated. I made a comment about it and was stared at by the teacher.
I thought I was funny. No one else did.

That I can sympathize with as I have the same problem, all I can advise you to do is work on it.I have trouble shutting up. I can't help myself.
That's why first impressions matter so much.If you're labled an ass by your audience, then it doesn't matter what you will do, you will still be an ass.
From this day forth I will try to shut up more.
Including on Beyond3D.
It's not an issue of shutting up, rather then thinking before you speak. I think you need to take into consideration some factors before deciding to blurt out whatever comes to your mind. Factors such as audience, context, subject and your delivery. Most importantly you also need to understand your position within your audience. That's why commedians work so well, people laught at them because they are "supposed" to be funny. If you're labled an ass by your audience, then it doesn't matter what you will do, you will still be an ass.
