Heavy Rain [PS3]

That's partly because the protagonist is a guy. :p

I almost had a Heavy Rain moment the other day when I was 15 minute late to fetch my kid after his class. My heart was pounding faster and faster since I was always early; had no idea how the boy would behave if he couldn't find me. All sorts of Heavy Rain images popped up in my mind like those words circulating Ethan's head. :runaway:

David Cage casting for “Horizon”:

VG247 has learnt that Heavy Rain’s David Cage is now casting for a project called “Horizon,” said to be centred on a twenty-something couple.

We were told the plot involves “a curious man raised very insularly meeting a free woman who is hesitant to exercise her freedom.”Last bit: it’s just been hinted to us that the whole thing is science fiction.

While the exact motion controls for hailing your wandering son remain unknown, Sony managing producer Petro Piaseckyj confirmed that a PlayStation Move patch for Heavy Rain -- the entire game reworked with Move commands -- will be added at an unspecified date this fall. Piaseckyj could not confirm if the patch would be a free update or a paid add-on; nor did he know if the PlayStation Move control option would be implemented into a future version of the standard retail game or sold separately as, say, the "Move Edition."

"There's definitely a learning curve to the Move," Piaseckyj warned, explaining that two difficulty levels of Move controls would be available in the Heavy Rain update.

Finished the game several weeks ago. Wow!

I have a few complaints, though. With regards to the controls, sometimes I got confused because I had different options (buttons) and I didn't know what actions would happen depending on the button. That's why I
accidentally killed the "crucifix dude" (yeah, I know that the player can deduce that R1 is for shooting, but...) and why I leaved Lauren inside the car
.

On the graphics side, this game is spectacular. Sometimes it looks almost photorealistic (like in the hospital). What I disliked more: the hands. In videogames, most hands are animated or arranged in a way that fingers are always like... too separated one from another, as if the player were holding a ball. Moreover, "0 wrist movement" (except for specific animated gestures) doesn't help. Orthopedic hand sydrome, I call it.

I think that it's not too much to ask for this current generation. There should be a more realistic hand/fingers response, with some kind of physics simulation flesh and bones). This way, it would be more realistic the way fingers interact with other parts of the body (when characters touch their face, fingers are completely rigid and pass through the skin, for instance) and realism would be increased, since it is very noticeable when this things happen.

Oh, and the way that nostrils, eyes and teeth are lit, sometimes, like if there's no self-shadowing, result in an off-putting effect. Oddly, some characters seem to be more realistic than others, with regards to this aspect (as well as other aspects, too). For instance, the first black police officer I saw (when Norman arrives to the crime scene) looked almost real, to me, while Norman himself looks more... "computerish", to me. Well, this may be personal perception, though.

Replaying the game, at this moment, to achieve more trophies (I got less than 50% trophies, the first time I finished the game).

Holy cr*p, I see complains about eyes because they are the window of our souls. It shows if a realistic character have wacky eyes. If we are complaining about lighting of nostrils and teeth, then we are getting into the area of perfectionist.

I agree Norman looks a little stiff/stoned though.
RIP my Norman

It is a point, actually. Look at this more carefully (this is specially noticeable on teeth). Is it bad to ask a bit more of perfecion in a game that is supposed to surf in the uncanny valley? :p

What's your opinion on hands, eh?

RIP my Norman
Me too.
I thought that I had to keep on searching in ARI to find something, despite he was bleeding through his nose, and I achieved the contrary that I wanted to achieve!

I can't see any image (if you linked one in).

All I know is I didn't notice any nostril or teeth artifacts in my playthrough.

My Norman fought with a thug but because of shitty player skills, he now lies 6 feet under.

I didn't post one, but here you have some:

This image is very famous. Norman's face has always looked weird, to me, as well as Ethan's, sometimes. I don't know why, but Madison and Shelby looked more "human" to me. This picture shows a weird light effect. It's almost like an ambient light set to 100% on his face and the mouth and teeth look like... a donkey's teeth.

The following pic is awful:

A picture like this is a good example of how good it looks when it looks good:

I think the light you are talking about is the glow coming from his glasses, which is his investigation computer. That's why his face always glows a bit when he is wearing them.

The first picture looks weird may be because of the lighting joker454 mentioned above. To me, it looks like he has Botox injected into his face. The other two look more or less fine to me.

I don't see his teeth as a problem but hey, that's just me. ^_^

Its easy to get a bad/weird poses & expression while the character is talking (or doing a complex movement)...the first picture shows just that.

For me it is not the teeth alone, but the teeth+the mouth, especially when they talk or breath or trying to act...still looks rather weired to me, although I could ignore it during playing.

For me it was curious that some faces look much better than other faces...probably the worst I can remember is the face and mouth+teeth of the whore you help out (this scene was also part of the demo)!

Nah, the worst was by far that tv announcer dude at the end. He moves like a hand puppet. Like someone out of Sesame Street or the Canadians in South Park.

Out of the principal character I thought Nahman was the worst. Kinda looked like a rubber face over an animatronic head.

Yes. Then, if the light comes from the glasses (upper part of the face), why are teeth lit if the upper lip is supposed to cover them and project a shadow? That's what I'm talking about. There's no self-shadowing for some lights and this causes this weird effect.

The other two look more or less fine to me.
I showed the third one as a good picture. ;) By the way, I just noticed that Norman's mouth is closed in this one. Is that a coincidence (good picture/mouth closed)?

Ahem, her name is Lauren, Lauren Winter... ;)

But yes, I also noticed that her lower part of the face is kind of weird, she has a pronounced jaw. I said to myself that real life is also like that, sometimes.

Lol! I don't remember him like that! I will check it again, next time.

I know that I complained of some graphical aspects regarding faces, especially on Norman, but my impression didn't get to that point. I feel sorry for you. :p

Yeah, I could not remember her name
Funny thing is
that she could play a major role at the end, if of course you get the right ending
