Halo 5: Guardians [XO]

You really judging a game by the quality of the ads? How many times has a game had an amazing advert, but ended up being a huge bag of dicks?
Nope. I'm just saying the TV adds I've seen so far lack the emotional "punch" of previous TV adds.

John's coin might have been a nice bit of paraphernalia.
Yeah, it would also have been cool to include the dented and scarred bell from when they were children in the SII program in the Fall of Reach.

I refrain from coming in and saying negative things but I agree with NRP here, I always loved HALO ads, they were always special. HALO5 ads have been completely lackluster and all that emotional stuff feels forced and meaningless. Masterchief is still Masterchief and can kick them asses in their asses for calling him a traitor :yep2: ! Jokes aside, the trailers feel low budget TV drama commercials trying to sound epic compared to the HALO ads of yore which felt like mini movies with epic highs !

I agree now its like a bunch of "bro" space marines acting all cool and what not, kicking alien butt, fearing of nothing because "we are spartans"
In the previous games they appeared strong and fearful, not because they were too cool for anything to stand in their way, but because they felt danger, they were vulnerable, yet strong and courageous enough to fight truly fearful and threatening enemies that were equally as strong either in numbers or individually. In Reach they even sacrificed their lives and some of them had missing parts and scars from previous battles.

Massive spoiler alert (it's pretty early on in the game but still)

Edit: These are real-time cutscenes, they look really good! They basically moved to 30 fps/21:9 aspect ratio to make them look beautiful and it shows.

So the big new character in Halo 5 is Holo Biggles. Interesting. :yep2:

IGN just did an unboxing of the Halo 5 Limited Edition Xbox One. Ignore the title as the price is incorrect.

One disappointment is it looks like the Guardian Model is an assemble yourself from laser cut pieces.
I've been staying away from any gameplay/story vids to avoid spoilers.

I have to say I'm hugely disappointed in the story bringing Cortana back unless.. unless she is truly is an enemy that must be destroyed for good - preferably by the Chief.. But I fear this is going to be Cortana's mysterious returns means she's perceived to be evil, but she's not and because the Chief is trying to find her, he's now a target but when everybody gets together it's all one big mistake and oh no! A big space enemy has appeared, let's all work together to kill it and be back in time for cornflakes with hugs all around.

For the love of God, let's have an adult storyline where not everybody is true and good and just a little misunderstood and where everybody important survives, i.e. kids cartoon level writing. But I genuinely think 343 are fearful of doing anything bold, like killing off characters for good, because of fan reaction.

If this is how it pans out, I'm out of Halo after 5 :yep2:

Epically psyched to play this!

I saw a bit of the giant bomb cast and it looked really fun. I stopped early to not see anymore lol. But one thing that stuck out for me were that reviewers were actually having like "fun". Haha. It's rare these days. The gameplay looked like Halo I think most people want to write it off, but I think playing it and watching it are two different things.

watched the IGN gameplay.... err... the map is bigger but feels empty-er and the enemy is dumber. Last time i remembered on Reach, the enemy often flank you and never stand stills like that.

I'm going to reserve judgement until I see the later parts of the game

Just saw small parts from the video @ gamersyde and i noticed something, both Locke and Chief have this hud

And it's not like that in multiplayer, wondering why there's a difference. Maybe to save up rendering time, sort of like different aspect ratio but in a different kind of way? 343i are already playing with dynamic res so that seems plausible.

Not a big fan of the series, but I watched some of the gameplay footage and it looks like they brought back some of the larger environments and vehicle play, on top of having some pretty high quality cutscenes. The visuals look pretty good to me. Gameplay looks really smooth.
