As announced today, Rockstar is introducing Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for Xbox in the third quarter of fiscal 2005, along with a simultaneous release of the PC version of the title.

Additional products planned for fiscal 2005 from Rockstar include a new console title based on a proven brand from Rockstar's internal studios, titles based on two of Rockstar's premier brands for Sony's highly anticipated PlayStation®Portable platform (PSP(TM)) and the release of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas in Japan.

Which are those PSP titles? GTA and Midnight Club?

*prays for much better graphics upgrade than GTA3 PS2 -> GTA3 xbox*

It better be worth the extra waiting time!

Unlikely, it will be very much a PC port. Don't think Rockstar really liked the Vice port (just a hunch)

does anybody here really belive GTA SA is a good game? I played it for a little bit.. the graphics and sound are like a trip back to '97. Its really quite insane. Like there sooo soooo bad I don't even know where to start. All the guns sound the same (which is a shitty sound BTW) The texures are horrid, like were taking quake 1 in some places... really really bad. Pop up is horrible and to top it all off you get it at around 20-30fps :p Game play is decent but it hardly makes up for all the shortcomings. Plus Its not nearly a huge as some ppl aremaking it out to be. In terms of land mass maybe, but its sooo undeatiled it doesn't really matter. Morrowind was much much more impressive in this area IMO. Any MMORPG can easily match GTA SA in terms of shear size. Anyway sorry I neded to vent, I seriously do not understand why thisgame got crazy good reviews...

They'll be coming from the newly aquired Rockstar Leeds Studio (formerly Mobius Enetrtainment). I'm guessing it's most likely Midnight Club and Max Payne, though GTA is possible too.

Pretty much one of the best game i have played.

But i have often wondered how much of a technical achievement the GTA series really is. For one GTA:SA is really big yet there is no loading only streaming from the DVD, and since you cant fit the entire world into memory i guess you are stuck with a certain amount of detail level based on the number of data you can get streamed.

It's an acquired taste if you've been gaming for a while. Coolest thing ever if you've never gamed before, I guess.

I'll definitely check this one out on the PC come June.

My interest in the series kind of waned from title to title (loved GTA, loved GTA2 a little less, loved GTA3 a little less than that, only completed about 5 missions in Vice City) but that won't stop me from trying GTA:SA.

rofl... yea we should. Maybe I'm not giving GTA a chance, but it seem just screams "lets not do any work cause we know its going to sell millions anyway" :p

Jak 2 looked way way better then GTA and also had no load times what soever. I i'm pretty sure the horrible graphics and sound just come down to developer lazyness.

Did it have the same number of polys combined with the GTA draw distance?

While I hate GTA myself, it's pretty obvious that it's a triumph of design over graphics. IMO it's the worst shooter, worst driving game, worst adventure game etc... all rolled into one game and integrated nicely.

It's amazing how the Jak series puts most games out there to shame on a technical level. IMO apart from a bit of tearing, it runs at double the framerate, progressiv-scan included and has a better draw-distance, more going on and I would say more geometry as well. In that aspect, even Jak & Daxter in 2002 is equally impressive (take out a bit of geometry, no p-scan but constant framerate with no tearing). Jak 3, although probably the same graphics-engine as Jak 2 is even more impressive thanks to the added, a bit more polished gameplay mechanics.
