Ghost Recon Wildlands [PC]

W10 taskbar preview thumb is the only way I can see the game.

Surely there's some epic let's play potential right there. ;-)

I had a poot around the open beta. I was just curious about the tech really, as I'm not I to shooters.

I liked the landscape. Is it churlish to complain about the grass now looking poor next the Horizon Zero Dawn?

What's with the jerky clouds at 5:07 till the end?

Do the headlights on cars cast shadows? :)

Clouds are ok. Nothing special I would say.

I dont think so but I will test it today.

EDIT:

Multiple cars are able to cast shadows

Compared to Horizon the vegetation in the BETA has mostly a lower quality per vegetation asset but a good point is the fact that vegetation reacts to physic. Horizons vegetation is mostly static which looks a bit odd in motion. Especially when you go through and nothing moves.

Most of the foliage doesn't react to the player, but the foliage is not static... especially when there's a lot of wind. It's 2 different things.

Played Open Beta a bit tonight, co-op with some randoms. Looks like nice fun potential gameplay since it's all co-op focused, which is so much more enticing to me than all their other pvp focused games. Reminds me a bit of Just Cause as well.

I played the beta through. It's basically Far Cry 3/4 with pimped equipment and optional Co-Op. The mechanics are really, really similar. I played solo and with my nephews. Personally I like solo better. People complain about the AI of your squad members, but you have to understand the their limitations and manage them properly to make it work. Once you get the hang of it, it's fun. It's great that you can switch seamlessly between Solo and Co-Op meaning people can join or leave during missions. Handling of certain vehicles could be better as was the case with Far Cry. Enemy AI could be better, it's about Far Cry level in normal difficulty. The scope of the game seems to be huge. The beta had 2 provinces, the final game will have 21. From that I'd estimate that the game will be at least 3 or 4 times as big as Far Cry 4.

I played on XB1 and didn't get a chance to try it on my PC (was able to begin the XB1 DL remotely, but not the PC DL so it didn't finish until late last night), but I enjoyed the gameplay for the most part.

To me it seems like co-op GTA, especially in terms of the controls and such. Too bad I didn't get to see how it looked in UWHD and my GTX-1070, but on the XB1 it looked pretty nice.

I don't know if this is physics driven or not. Often it can be an animation. For example flags mostly have no physics.

In any case the movements in itself look good. As long as the player does not go through or no explosions are happening the illusion remains.

The foliage reacts according to the speed of wind.
Still doesn't mean it's physics based. Doubt it's worth the compute cycles to do actual physics in that game considering the power available.

I could not see one.

By the way Watch Dogs 2 and Wildlands have now also received NVidia Ansel support. Ansel already worked in the Wildlands BETA.

I've tested it Watch Dogs 2 [ALT + F2] where in my opinion the camera is too restricted. In the highest quality one normal 2D screenshot had the size of 28.3 gigabytes (63 360*35 640 pixels) . This is so far I know bigger than the whole Watch Dogs 2 game.

Turf Effects are in the game and thus there are even more physical calculations than in BETA.

"This will be the first game to utilize NVIDIA Turf Effects for grass Simulation."

EDIT:

Video is in German but it shows the different areas:

I am impressed. This game is massive with it's ~400km². FALLOUT 4 is ~10km².

Turf FX definitely costs CPU Performance.
I have tested it in 720p. My fps number drops by about 1/3 by activated TurfFX in Ultra graphics and CPU settings. In this case the game is CPU bound on my settings because in HDReady I have about the same minimum fps as in FullHD. If I choose vegetation quality and detail richness to "very high" instead of "Ultra" I hold 60fps with TurfFX. Therefore I have to decide.

New Nvidia driver for Ghost Recon and the GTX 1080Ti was published today:

____

World size:
Red Dead Redemption: 41 km²
Skyrim: 37 km² (around a quarter of this is not playable) http://gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/39338/how-large-is-skyrim
ARMA 3: 270 km²
GTA 5: 81 km²
Far Cry 4: 46 km²
The Crew: ~5000 km²
Witcher 3: 54.3 km²
FALLOUT 4: ~10 km²
Just Cause 3: >1000 km²
The Division: ~10 km²
Zelda Breath of the Wild: 62 km²
Horizon Zero Dawn: ~12-15 km²
Wildlands: >400 km²

I like the size in Ghost Recon Wildlands because despite its size it is graphically very detailed and thus more credible than most of the other open world games on landscapes I know. A lake is not just a pond like in other games. I still remember how I was disappointed with RDR and FALLOUT 3 because of the small game world where I found it in FALLOUT 3 even more disturbing. As I walked only four minutes and I have already crossed half of the map. The Division may not be larger in square kilometre but this is an extremely dense City with interior spaces where much more is to discover. The Manhatten ofThe Division feels huge.

In my opinion open world games (excluding city open world) where no airplanes are available should be at least 40km² in size.
