Formula 1 - 2009 Season

Hamilton shows why he is a world champion

TBH, winning from pole in a race with next to no overtakes on anywhere in the field, with both of the drivers that were even close to challenging him getting penalties.. how exactly does that show "why he is a world champion"?

How ironic that Kaotik, once again, has to respond to something Hamilton specific...

But okay, I'll bite:

Being quicker at all times, despite heavier and with more fuel on board? There wasn't anyone else challenging him today. The only 'close' part was the middle stint (after the safety car) when Vettel was reasonably close behind and no one really knew how much fuel both had, given that the safety car caused a bit of uncertainty. As it turned out, Vettel pitted earlier, and Hamilton was still quicker before that. Of course, feel free to point out that it's probably all because of the car, kers etc... ;)

BTW: It's not as if there were a whole lot of overtakes in that race last night, besides the start phase and after the safety car.

Rosberg wasn't exactly far before his incident getting out of pits and crossing the line, he might have been able to challenge Lewis eventually.

And while I know I got apparently certain reputation when it comes to commenting Lewis, I know he is really talented driver, and definately one of the current top drivers, the comment was just regarding this specific race, it didn't show anything spectacular on his part (nor anyone elses, tbh)

They should just change it to "Singabore" instead, only thing adding any spice to the race is the quite high probability of safety car mixing the field

I'm sorry, but that wasn't going to happen. Rosberg pittet on lap 17, Hamilton on lap 20. Even though Hamilton was heavier (660.5 vs 657.5kg), he still managed to increase his lead slowly, putting down regular fastest sector times. Even if the lead wasn't that much, the earlier pitstop of Rosberg effectivelly killed his chance to compete. Not even would a safety car help, as that usually tears up the strategy of the front runners.

Fair enough, the safety car caused some confusion and it was unknown how it would impact Hamilton, Vettel and Rosberg (all those that pitted before the safety car). Lucky to them, it didn't much, only causing the pack to catch up and them being stuck on the fuel loads from their earlier pitstop. Rosberg then also stuffed up his own chance of keeping #2 through his own error. The drive-through he got was a clear-cut black-white rule he broke and by his action alone.

As I said, Hamiltons win yesterday wasn't in doubt and would have only been lost through his own actions or through a safety car phase that could have compromised his strategy. That didn't happen though and he delivered exactly what he needed to.

Yep I think we need less circuits like Monaco and Singabore and more tracks like Spa and Silverstone. Monaco should be the only "no overtaking boring city circuit" because of its history and all.

Indeed. Much as Singapore is quite a spectacle being held at night, you've got to question a circuit when Rosberg can be matching Hamilton one minute and then stuck behind Trulli the next, lapping around 4secs a lap slower.

I though the race was pretty tense. Hamilton was untouchable, Rosberg made a rookie mistake that was painful to watch. Glock came out of nowhere and just underlines how weird the Toyotas have been this season. Alonso had some good fights at least in the beginning and he got a well deserved podium.

Button drove some really good laps at the end, and it saved his race and maybe even his championship. Vettel makes too many mistakes, Webber can get a bit of red mist at times and Barrichello is too emotional. However, Button has the same kind of lead as Hamilton had in 2007 with 3 races to go, so anything can happen.

Won't happen. The trend is clearly towards more city tracks, I guess that's where the money is for Bernie & co.

Monaco, Melbourne, Valencia and Singapore would all be history if it were up to me. You know you're watching a boring race when the commentators talk one hour during the race about pit strategy.

Cheers

Valencia is a boring race, Monaco can be but it is cool to see the cars so close to the wall and all the people in F1 love it so it won't be going away any time soon.

Singapore? I don't know, I think it looks spectacular but it may need some more adjustments to the layout to create genuine overtaking opportunities.

Well put Phil ref: Hamilton.
Hamilton and drivers of his ilk (which includes Alonso, Raikkonen and a select few others) really put their team mates to shame. When it is needed they just deliver and keep on delivering. To add even though I am not a big fan of Alonso you have to respect his speed and consistency. Hamilton is maturing as a driver too but still carries the edge on just about everyone on the track at the moment when things are perfectly aligned for him to show off and maximize his talent.

Kimi being team mate with Lewis is going to be interesting. Kimi is known for not giving a shit about anything but speed and I don't think politics will make a difference for him. I think if the car is good, he will give Lewis a run for his money. It would be good to see.

If Kimi indeed will end up at McLaren, I hope the car will be easily adjustable to being oversteering, so it'll fit Kimi too [wink]
That has been one of the big problems with him and Ferrari, the car doesn't suit his driving style (= oversteering car) at all.

Lewis likes oversteer too, so I guess it'll be OK.

I suspect politics influence him more then you and I would assume, since apparently, it was Kimi who put his 2010 season at Ferrari in doubt, feeling he wasn't receiving the same amount of support or something along that line.

Kimi seems a bit emo at times which is a shame for him because he obviously is an awesome driver.

Plus he needs speech therapy - his press conferences put me to sleep!!

Speech therapy won't give him anything interesting to say.

Kimi has always been boring, he saves his excitement for the track.

I'm saying that he just doesn't give a shit about it. Of course it affects him because people have more power than him, but he just doesn't get fired up about it.
