Formula 1 - 2009 Season

Subaru's WRC team is Prodrive, which is David Richards, which has been rumoured to take over Honda Racing.

Is it now more likely or less likely? Middle Eastern oil money to the rescue?

slightly offtopic but it seems Suzuki and Subaru are getting out of WRC...

I dont really follow WRC, but didnt Suzuki and Subara perform pretty bad? seems like they Japanese are on the run now knowing they can save some face by not having to admit they just fucked up and instead blame it on money (as if a multi billion company really has to worry about spending spending a couple of tens of millions on a race team with big exposure (free commercials)).

Well, Petter Solberg won the WRC with Subaru in 2003 before the Loeb Citröen dominance started. Also Colin McRae and Richard Burns won with Subaru in the 90s.

However, I agree with you. I think they are using the finance crisis as a convenient way out.

It's was fun with group B but they cancelled stages on the last rally even though spectators could get to it because it was so dangerous.

It's makes Subaru look twice as stupid, sales are down because not many people like the new hatch back (not to mention the STI has been neutered into some sort of luxury cruiser more than rally car for the road like it used to be), a shape they introduced to have a better chance of winning the WRC as the old sedan was too big.

Yes, like that team that gets away will blueprints from a other team and is allowed to be crane lifted out of the cravel. Its is very obvious the FIA only decides in the advantage of Ferrari.

Yawn.....

Basically you are bitching about a rule that was invented for Ferrari in the first place.

As for the blueprint comment, we all know you have no idea what your talking about and a very bitter so why bother going over it again.

Fact is, Bernie has just highlighted Ferrari get far more "help" than any other team that extends further than just money.

Open and shut case, the FIA do what Ferrari want.

Lol whatever you say. Call me bitter, atleast im not unrealistic enough to say the FIA does everything Ferrari does. Last season should be proof enough for that.

That Ferrari has more influance than other teams, that isnt suprising and that Bernie now says that (though he actually is chicken, because if the FIA really did so much for Ferrari, he should have openend his mouth and say that, this makes him nothing better than those who he is accusing) shouldnt really be new news for anyone. Ferrari has been in F1 since day 1, on multiple occasions supported the FIA while others didnt and has a name that basically is tied with F1. Its not suprising they have more to say than others. This isnt that uncommon in others sports either and I dont see how it is neccesary a bad thing as far as everything is done by the rules ofcourse. Now if that is the case can be debated but the fact is F1 has always been a case of running in grey areas and I dont think Ferrari can get away with more ''cheating'' than others.

You don't think it is wrong that some gets preferential treatment in sports ?

Cheers

Yes its wrong but its like there everywhere. There is not 1 place on the planet where you can get 100% equal treatment, not in sports, life work whatever. So what im more interrested in is exactly what treatment they get. Special treatment doesnt have to be bad, they are in the sport the longest so its not strange that in desicion making they might have a heavier vote. Thats not uncommon in other sports either that big teams have more to say over smaller ones.

It only gets bad if they can get away with something any other team would be heavily punished for. And again, seeing what mclaren got away with last season I dont think the FIA is only on Ferrari's hands.

Yes it's bad that there might be preferential treatment in F1. What's worse is that Bernie actually made the deal i.e. bought Ferrari for $80 Million.

How the hell can he still stay in charge is beyond me. Hell, i'm surprised you guys actually seem to support him.

WTH? Everyone should be getting the same treatment, if Ferrari get more, then I actually blame Bernie and not Ferrari.

Wow, I'm actually surprised at his own stupidity at releasing this kind of information.

The heads of the other teams should be screaming bloody murder, yet nothing seems to have changed.

They dont scream bloody murder because:

"They get about $80 million (£54 million) more. When they win the Constructors' Championship, which they did this year, they got $80 million more than if McLaren had won it."

Howard, though, claims Ecclestone's announcement was a "non-event", saying the Formula One supremo may be trying to split FOTA.

"He may be trying to [split FOTA] but all the information that was given is very transparent and openly shared among the members of FOTA, so it was a bit of a non-event because everybody is aware of the historic status [of Ferrari]," Howett told The Times.

He added that FOTA back Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo's calls on commercial-rights holder Ecclestone to share more of the revenue with the teams.

A 54m Euro handout is appalling and is anti-competitive. F1 would be a better sport if Ferrari were not involved. If McLaren can win the constructors championship next year the pressure will be on to remove this 'bonus' and instead spread it equally throughout the pit lane. Maybe then Ferrari will lose some of its dominance behind the scenes and wont be able to afford the teams of lawyers it employs at every race.

Anyway I hear distinct rumblings of a Honda buyout. Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim is reportedly interested in a deal that would keep Brawn and Button in the team and replace Barrichello with the over-rated Senna Jnr. Honda have also agreed to support the team for the 09 season if a buyer is found.

Yeah that goes without saying, but most followers of F1 knew that already!

Atleast most people in UK... However the help Hamilton has got and the penalties Ferrari has gotten over the years magically disappear from your consciousness. Ferrari get's more money, because it's more important to the sport than any other team including McLaren.
