Wow, this one got TRASHED in reviews. Sometimes I don't put much faith in reviews, but this one was very poorly received by everyone. I thought there were some good things in the demo, but I guess it just can't hold out for an entire game. Drag.
On sale for $10 for the 360 right now (Games On Demand).
Since there were no summer of arcade games of interest I hopped on this.
I am only 90 minutes in but for a $10 game this is great. Graphics are outstanding -- characters are modeled well, lighting and shadowing are nice, weather is excellent, the world is very interactive, animations are good, etc.
I did not like the first game's demo. I felt like the controls were not very crisp. The demo for TFUII were better and the full version continues to live up to that. For $10 it has more than enough depth for me:
L Stick - Move
R Stick - Camera
X - Light Sabers
Y - Lightning Lightning
A - Jump
A A - Double Jump
B - Force Push
R Bumper - Lock
L Bumper - Dash
R Trigger - Force Grip
L Trigger - Block
L/R Click together - Force Rage
There are all sorts of combos -- some are force powers like L Trigger and Y to do a Mind Trick and enemies fight each other, jump over walls, etc. A+B and Y+X do close up grab combos. Combos like X X X B(hold) X Y/B do some nice multi-attacks. You can force grip or block rockets and turn them around. You can even toss your sabers and, in rage mode, your guy goes nuts. The game feels good for an action game.
You also can upgrade you character's force abilities (3 levels for each skill) as well as use different saber combinations (some give health, others force powers, etc) to fit your style or weaknesses and add different clothing.
I can see the complaints as it really seems to only cater to, "You are a super-Jedi -- now go destroy everything!" It is fun and over the top -- and this time everything works. Picking things up and throwing them is a blast.
But... I can already tell it would have been fun entering some "Assassin's Creed" like areas in disguise, walk around, use your Jedi Mind Trick to get into places, etc. And while the cut scenes, graphics, voice overs, and music are all
really good so far the game lacks much... character. For all the neat animations (they are fun to watch!) and the interaction (it is like having the HL2 gravity gun at the END of the game and things break this time) it doesn't seem so far the game asks you anything to do with them.
Where I think they go wrong is instead of the above being fleshed out we get... QTE.
I honestly like how the game feels (I don't find the uber force annoying like someone else did in the 1313 thread...) and think, if Lucas Arts wished to continue the franchise, the base idea and technology is there. It just needs polish and better content (but didn't they let a lot of people go?) Also, I could see this character being a good mix into a FPS game. Yes, FPS. He can block blasters and whatnot and with force push can do some close-intermediate damage. Having a character like this in a squad / coop game (Luke, Han, Chewy?) could offer some unique gameplay options.
Anyways, for $10 so far not a bad purchase. I didn't expect a lot but visually it is an excellent title -- up there with other AAA titles -- and there is a big void in my hack and slash library. This scratches that itch. I just wish, as usual, it had coop or MP
